we are going to take helicopter ride in Juneau but there are differences based on time walking on glacier. Heard one was too much time putting on glacier boots or crampons. Is it worth it ? Also there areprice differences on Princess based on time (?) you go.. not sure if different companies. Guidance, experiences?

Welcome to CC,

Eveyr helicotper tour has overhead; get to the airport, check-in and weigh, watch the video, get your lifejacket/vest and put on boots then the wait for your turn. IMHO you choose the tour based on the experience you want.

The standard landing is just a quick peek around and maybe you can walk 10-20 yards and see / touch the ice. From what I saw the short and longer trek really get you time on the ice and a hike / climb if you are fit enough. If you like to hike/climb and see wilderness thru your own sweat and phyiscal activity then its probably for you.

We did our Glacier landing tour with TEMSCO on August 13 in Juneau, the one with 20 minutes walk. We used Toursaver coupon buy one get one free. Now edition 2010 toursaver books are on secondary market for cheap price on amazon. Before buying the book check with Temsco if you can use the coupon for your flight. You can only use one coupon per flight. They need the coupon book number for reservation. They pick you up from dock and drop you off at dock. You watch a safety video, put on crampons, take a helicopter ride for about 20 minutes and walk for about 20 minutes. When we did this tour weather was really good, we were able to walk more than 200 feet. Weather was in low 60 F and with little bit of wind, still after 10 minutes of walking, our noses were running. We should have taken tissues with us. There were 2 guides on glacier, who talked with us all about glacier when we were walking and answered our questions. We drank glacier water. We all thought it was worth the price, specially if you use coupon. If weather is windy and cold then it may be totally different experience. I don't know much about other vendors tour.
