Just found out that our crusie coming up on 4/30 Norwegian Star to Mexico has LIVE DEALERS Plus FREE COCKTAILS during the Whole Cruise if your a Casino at Seas Member, which they gave us when we booked through them.....

A Live Dealer Makes a World of difference to me compared to Pokerpro tables I've been on Carnival and Princess.....

Also one thing to watch out for which has happened Twice on Princess during Live Cash games and Tournament games are Cheaters:eek:......Once was 2 Brothers who they let sit next to each other...I watched them win alot at a cash game and caught them Giving Signs to each other on what cards they were holding, plus Raising and Reraising the pots to get everyone out but them, unless someone had a really strong hand they were swooping lots of pots with nothing hands,,,,By the 2nd day at a Tournament Game, me and another lady had noticed it going on as well and called them out on it....The Floor Lady first made them sit apart, then when it was still happening Banded them from playing anymore......Just a Thought that you have to watch the people your playing with ...

This will be our first crusie on NCL and from everything I'm reading on these boards and by talking with their CASINOS AT SEAS Dept, NCL seems like the Cruise line to be on if you like Texas Hold-Em.....:)

"The only down side was that the game became SO friendly that by the end I lost a lot of value because I didn't want to take money from some of the people I really liked. I ended up checking down the nuts a few times because I didn't want to stick it to someone."

That's why with WSOP & WPT events you would be penalized if you didn't bet the nuts.

Our last cruise on HAL we were on the Rotterdam and there was one poker table with a dealer in the casino. I never bothered to play as it seemed to be the same players every night and I was content to sit at third playing BlackJack. :)

I played every night on a 7 night cruise. Lost in the first night only. There are regulars that keep coming back. You learn their styles. After winning big several nights I got a reptuation and used that to my advantage. Was really easy to push out the weak players. Keep a big stack and push people around. Wound up hualing in over $2K.

I recently cruised on the Adventure of the Seas, which thankfully had live dealers. My advice to those of you who want to play, but do not see anyone playing at the poker table(s), go up to the pit bosses and ask if 1)they have a dealer available for poker, and 2) if they will make an announcement that they are opening up a new $1-2 cash game. That did the job our first night. After that, we had a steady group of players from 10 PM on every night of our cruise, which was very cool. I was surprised/disappointed to hear that Oasis and Allure had more PokerPro tables than live dealer tables.

Hey Shakes, I'm sailing on the Adventure of the seas in 7 weeks, and hope to play some poker. A couple questions...

1) What's the drop if there is no flop? For example raise, and everyone folds preflop

2) What's the drop if you chop the blinds?

Thanks

the fact that you know about 2+2 means you should do great on the ship. Here are a couple pointers I learned from my cruise...

-lots of calling stations so don't even think of trying to buy pots. You will get called down with anyone sporting bottom pair.

-unless you have a monster starting hand, its almost pointless to raise preflop if you are doing so to chase players from the hand. In a 1/2 game even if you raise to $10 you will still get several callers. I went with the limp and pray strategy which leads me to my next point. Case in point, I lost one hand with pocket aces because I raised 5x bb preflop and had a caller. Flop came out 8-3-3 so I bet it, figuring that no one with a 3 would've called my pre flop raise. Ended up losing to a guy who called my raise with 10-3. But it was suited, which became a running joke all week amongst the players at the table who knew what they were doing.

-unlike a real game, once you make the nuts or near nuts you can be guaranteed to have at least one caller no matter how much you bet.

My first night in the casino I lost about $100, each night after that I improved and brought in $300 on the last night and could've easily been alot more but I checked down several hands with friends of mine who I didn't want to take money from. Also lost out on $50 when some drunk idiot tried to string bet a $50 raise with a pair of 8s while I had a set of Kings.

Just be prepared to change up how you normally play is the best advice I can give you. The last night one of my friends lamented that she would've won a hand if she played her 9-5 and I told her that for $2 you might as well play 9-5 every time. To make a point, I played it the next time I got it and won a big pot with a straight. I played it 3 more times that night and won every time.

On the other hand, I lost every single hand all week where I had AK.

this is very good advice. it's almost more difficult to play against some first timers with $1k to throw around than at a real table. but, if you play tight and bet big with the nuts some real money is possible.

No friends at the table. I've busted my wife and son out of tourneys, and felted my best friends. I'd expect them to do the same to me. I'm hoping to find a decent game on Explorer in December and I paln on playing in the on board satellite for next year's cruise

I have never taken a cruise where the poker didn't seriously defray the cost of the cruise (just never paid for it)

Just play a tight game and you'll be fine. The Donk might hand you a bad beat or two on the river, but luck doesn't last forever.
