sverigecruiser Posted August 29, 2010 #26 Share Posted August 29, 2010 Since I will be in a suite, the layout is a smaller problem for me than for those in a standard cabin but i'm still wondering why they have the strange layout. Lots of people think that the cabins are small but according to the brochure, the standard balcony cabins on the Epic are a little bigger than the standard balcony cabins on the other ships! Does the new layout make the room feel smaller or are the balconys bigger on the Epic?
k9sar Posted August 30, 2010 #27 Share Posted August 30, 2010 our balcony seemed to be 3x the sixe of a normal one... hehehehe. The layout, though interesting with the 'wave' robs the room of valuable space (in my opinion). Simple packing theory.... room has curves, beds are rectangles, suitcases are rectangles, kids are rectangles, etc. Style -vs- function is a debate that I'm sure the NCL folks had many long discussions about. InTheCruisingYearsOfLife Posted August 30, 2010 #29 Share Posted August 30, 2010 Before the launch there was lots of panicking and people throwing their toys out of the pram regarding the new style bathroom layout, .... I just wiped a mouthful of coffee off my monitor and keyboard. That's the best metaphor I've ever read anywhere on Cruise Critic. Bravo. arpster Posted August 31, 2010 #30 Share Posted August 31, 2010 probably eased off because the mere mention of it would bring on a flame attack from the usual cheerleaders.......for what it's worth the ludicrous bathroom design is still an issue - not as major as the ridiculously small cabin sizes - but an issue all the same.... Which cabin-type did you have again? I've forgotten. Some of the cabins may be smaller than others, and knowing which one you sailed in might be helpful.... Correct me if Im wrong but wasn't it you who stayed in a Courtyard suite?.....if so you have about as much experience of living in the cramped cabins I do....fortunately it doesnt stop either of us expressing an opinion... Nope, I was in a spa suite. It was quite a bit smaller than the penthouse on the Jewel, but not 'cramped'. So if I read your response correctly, you haven't been in one of these cabins, correct? Did you sail on the ship yet? What type of cabin did you have?

Gairy Fodmother Posted August 31, 2010 #35 Share Posted August 31, 2010 Neil I know there will be no issues with bathrooms for me. I am wondering if there will be issues when I walk butt naked onto my open air 8th deck balcony though I'll give you a wave :) Which ship will you be on again? Makes note to self... buy those damn binoculars....

sottovoce Posted September 1, 2010 #38 Share Posted September 1, 2010 Could it have been brand-new posters who had never been on ship, never planned to go on ship, running a concerted campaign to denigrate the ship? For whatever reason? Some people just have a hard time handling change. Others have their day made by finding flaws.

That would be interesting, if THEY had been on the ship. Most of the people being referred to, haven't.

LCTXcruiser Posted September 3, 2010 #43 Share Posted September 3, 2010 What cabin were you in??? This is the first I've heard of flooding from the shower. We have booked an aft BA on deck 9 for October. We were in the back of the Conquest - 7446
coffeebean Posted September 3, 2010 #44 Share Posted September 3, 2010 We were in the back of the Conquest - 7446 Is the Conquest a Carnival ship??? I thought you were talking about an Epic stern cabin. Maybe THAT'S why I haven't heard about any flooding in these cabins showers. I've been in stern cabins before on other ships and have never had a problem with drainage in the showers.
