Any truth to the myth that slots allways pay better on the first night

I think it's a myth....where would the "facts" come from...the cruiseline? They would NEVER tell you if (or when) the loosen or tighten the slots!

#1 myth of slot machines is that the payouts can be changed at will. I have seen this myth about hitting on the first night but also, hitting on the last night, at sea days, after dinner, whatever variable you want...

 

Fact is that under current technology the slot machine payouts can't be changed without changing the Random Number Generator on the machine which is an expensive chip. The payouts on the machines are ordered by the company and made in the factory to the casino specifications.

 

I realize that there is very little regulation of casinos on ships but I will give an example of how difficult it is to change the RNG to illustrate the point. It is illegal to change the RNG on slot machines in major jursidictions unless permission is given by the Casino Control Commission and they are present when it is changed...

 

They do not have to change the payouts, they always win....Changing the payouts would undermine the confidence that people have in casinos, they may lose but at least they didn't get cheated and that is paramount to the casinos in drawing in customers.

 

Information on the RNG is readily available on line....

I would like to add to what Don was saying in that cruiselines set the RNG lower than casinos onland as they have no competition to worry about. In other words its harder to win at the machines.:)

My son was winning like crazy. it was one of the next level machines that you win and move on to the next level on the video screen. and win there based on your input/selections

The next day when I tried, the slot play had changed due to a software issue says the casino staff. Payout from the new machines were non existent for the remainder of the trip compared to the first day. Everyone that had played the machines on the first day was complaining about it.

The slot machines just don't have that ability to change the "software" in the middle of the cruise. Machines will go through long payouts by chance only, to change the payouts requires a tech to come on the ship and replace the "guts" of the machine. This is a very expensive process and why it is set and rarely changed.

However, I know what we were told, am a computer technician by trade, and also own a Skill Stop machine that has jumpers to make it loose medium or tight.

 

It is my firm opinion that the slot machines of today are software driven and can be manipulated to whatever the house wants them to be.

Not sure of what rules the cruise lines follow in regards to payouts, but tomorrow I plan on trying to find out on the Carnival Fantasy, but will probably spend most of my time and money on the Craps table.

 

I am on vacation and plan to enjoy it.. woohoo!

Sorry, but thats only coincidence, as I said under current technology they cannot change the payouts...Just simply not the case....Software changes or updates only change graphics, etc. but not payouts. They are set at the factory and as someone said, I believe they are set lower than land based casinos since there is no competition..If you don't believe us, go and check the internet for information from unbiased sources....It is readily available.

Most casinos will order their machines between about 80% to around 97% payout, key is to find the machine with the higher percentage.. It is simply luck...

Machine payouts in Vegas are based on the denomination of the machine, Penny machines payouts are around 89% and 1.00 machines are around 92% and $5 machines are even higher. On cruise ships there is no competition and no regulation so the machines payouts are even lower making them appear tighter so to speak. Another thing about cruise slot machines is they will reset progressive jackpots after the end of the cruise or every other cruise so if they hit the jackpots aren't as big.:eek:

I'd actually be surprised if slots on ships are even up to 80%. Any you are right, to find the 87% vs the 80% machine is simply luck. In the end, the house always wins. If you do win, leave immediately cause you did beat the odds! :D

Slot machines use a Random Number Generator or an RNG that determines outcomes. You could hit the first night, the last night, or any time in between. You might not even win at all on the slot machines.

Best bet, learn to play a table game and enjoy yourself. The payouts are better and you could socialize with your fellow passengers.

About three years ago at one of the AC casinos, their five dollar machines were paying out at a 105% rate for a period of about three months. It was really odd....

In land-based casinos when a progressive machine or game is removed they are required return any leftover amount to the players. They usually do this by offering negative house edge games for a short period of time.

 

Since cruise ship casinos do not need to abide by these regulations I would not hold my breath.

That would make sense since it was about that time that a lot of the classic slot progressives started to disappear...

We were on Carnival Victory last month, and on our first night in the casino after two or three pulls on a quarter machine, my husband was up $750.00 :D

 

The rest of the week was not so profitable for him but at least the first night's winnings provided him with some gambling money for the week... Oh, and he DID share it with me!;)

Vegas already has it in at least one casino (Aria) and I'm pretty sure the NCL Epic rolled out with it. Some of the other newer ships may have as well. More and more casinos will be converting over to this system. Not only does it give them flexibility at changing odds but also in loading a variety of games to one machine.

That article does not address changing odds, it only mentions changing the pay tables, graphics, etc. which is a totally different thing. The question in this thread was whether the odds can be changed and your article does nothing to dispel this...
