Does RCI enforce it's no-smoking policies? Particularly curious about Serenade of Sea

Just off the RCI Jewel Baltics and thought the smoking would be worse than on the Caribbean sailings but it was not..even in the casino very little noticed/smelled..Smoking is prohibited in any cabin approx a $250.00 fine..but it's ok on your balcony....

Do not worry to much, if Royal do not enforce any non smoking areas, there are plenty of passengers that will comment, or ask the staff to ensure the restrictions are upheld.

Just figured out that Carnival allows smoking in cabins and in many public venues, which makes Royal Caribbean a bit more appealing. Have you had problems on RCI ships with smokey venues?

I've sailed several RCI ships and have a nose very well trained to sniff out smokey smells. :p RCI does do a good job of keeping smoking confined to areas where it is permitted. I haven't smelled it in a stateroom since the regulation prohibiting it has been put in place.

My sinuses have the acute ability to slam shut when I'm around smoke, which makes me quite irritable. On both of the cruises I've been on so far, no problem the entire trip. Just make a note of where the smoking areas are (listed on the Cruise Compass) and avoid those locations. Enjoy!

Just done 23 days, on 2 different RCI ships and had no problem whatsoever with smokers.

Designated smoking areas were usually about half full, and no smokers attempted to smoke in non-smoking areas. Even the casinos did not smell bad as we passed through.

Thanks. Figured as much. How about the other public areas and cabins?

I've had very little problem with it. I avoid it as much as possible. The only bad experience I had (and this is minor) on one formal night a photographer had a setup near one of the bars where smokers congregate and the air was bad waiting in line for that photo. Other than that I've had no problems, enforced or not most people tend to follow the smoking rules. I agree about the Casinos, but I don't use them much anyway, but will do so if they have a non-smoking night on my next two cruises.

Other than the casino, the major problem we encountered was in the Viking Crown Lounge, where half the area was smoking and half non-smoking. Unfortunately, there are no walls and the smell of smoke easily gets to the non smoking areas.

Here's hoping RCCL reads these threads and considers making the VCL tootally non-smoking!
