cruisenfreak Posted October 7, 2010 #1 Share Posted October 7, 2010 We cruised on the NCL Majesty several times through the years and on each cruise they had a caviar buffet one night set up on deck outside the usual buffet - and it was never advertised. It was wonderful! We've cruised on several other NCL ships and, as far as I know, none of them had this. Does anyone know whether the Sun has a caviar night? No--NCl has cut costs everywhere--your lucky if you get tuna sandwiches in the buffet--no mid night buffets. Bg

Bg There was no midnight buffet on our Celebrity cruise, either. Not even a dinner buffet. I don't understand why you would write something--that silly business about tuna sandwiches--that has no basis in reality. Perhaps you should just stop cruising NCL if you are this negative about its cruises.

Perhaps you should just stop cruising NCL if you are this negative about its cruises. Because it is true that NCL has cut costs everywhere in the last three years-- nothing negative there just fact--I cruise on NCL because they have the best suite amenities in the mid level cruise market--not because of their buffets which IMOP are poor at best.If you have cruised on NCL in the past 4 years you would have witnessed the gradually reduction in amenities.--so that is why--the casino has a mid night snack where you may get a tuna sandwich but no caviar. Bg
cruisenfreak Posted October 8, 2010 Author #6 Share Posted October 8, 2010 Sorry I didn't make myself clear. This was not a midnight buffet. It was during the dinner alternative buffet, but was set up just outside the buffet area out on deck - great presentation and very colorful; with the different kinds of caviar. And I've been cruising NCL for eight years and their buffets are as good as any other mass-market line I've cruised. Every cruise line has cut costs, not just NCL. I really don't understand your negativity toward NCL.
MagnoliaBlossom Posted October 8, 2010 #8 Share Posted October 8, 2010 We were on the Sun in August and were a group of 12, so between us, we didn't miss much - and if free caviar was available, someone is our gang woulda' let us know.

So--IMOP NCL buffets are not very good--that is what I am saying-- other things I like about NCl not their buffets--so I guess I have a right not to be a cheer leader for NCL buffets. If you have all this experience crusing why is this only your second post??? Ps I think the buffets are better on Carnival.:) BG
Fishbait17 Posted October 8, 2010 #10 Share Posted October 8, 2010 The Jewel class ships have had a decent caviar menu at the champagne bar - they probably still have it, I just haven't looked at the menu in a while. The Sun has a champagne bar in the Atrium, but I never checked the menu to see if they have caviar. Have never seen a caviar buffet though... DMH15 Posted October 8, 2010 #11 Share Posted October 8, 2010 I can't really see any mainstream line having a caviar buffet free of charge... Maybe for a fee like the Jazz brunch or such. Free caviar would scare me.:)
camz Posted October 8, 2010 #12 Share Posted October 8, 2010 The Majesty, I was aboard her three times and I loved that ship! It was a much smaller scale ship and they were able to offer the little things the larger ships could not possibly offer. I love the new NCL ships in the fleet, however, I do miss the Majesty. That boat had charm! :)
cruisenfreak Posted October 8, 2010 Author #13 Share Posted October 8, 2010 Yes, the only time I've ever seen the caviar buffet was on the Majesty and I too miss that ship. The crew was small enough that they all knew each other and they were having a good time too - it showed.
