San Diego pre-night stay......

If you feel like venturing out a little for dinner I recommend Little Italy. Only about a mile and a half from the port with lots of restaurants and bars. Short cab ride but we usually stay at Hampton Inn (across street from HI and about 2-3 blocks further towards airport) and they are good about taking you to neighborhood restaurants in their shuttle.

Holiday Inn on the Bay is a good choice (there's another HI so make sure you pick the right one) We were there 3 days pre-cruise so we got to take the Trolly Tour, enjoyed the Midway Battle ship , the Park & Zoo! Wish we had more time for Old Town & Little italy! What a nice city but a bit casual & disorganized as a port!

We ate at Elephant & Castle on site--good food, fair prices...thought Anthony's to be pricey.. there's also a deli on site & a nice cafe across the street near the port..

you can wheel your luggage over to the ship without taking a cab..

We stayed at the above HI precruise and while directly across the street from the port for convenience, was not to our liking. For $20 more per night, on the return, we stayed approximately 8 blocks further at the Hyatt -- a gorgeous upscale hotel directly behind the Seaport -- truly a HOTEL. The concierge's recommendations and arrangements alone were worth the extra $20 per night -- highly recommend. Vicki

We just returned from staying 1 night post cruise at the Best Western Hacienda Hotel in Old Town. Very large room, very clean and for under a hundred dollars a night, got picked up from the port, free breakfast and transportation to the airport. A great deal.:)

The Grand Hyatt on the waterfront is just a great experience if you are looking for something upscale. It is also close to the seaport village shops and restaurants. Also would recommend the Hampton Inn, as it is close to the port, and last time we stayed, was very good about taking us in their shuttle to dinner, and then we'd use a cab to get back, or walk and use the light rail system (which is quite good and easy to navigate.)

Definitely recommend Old Town - Mexican Restaurant in the back with a great courtyard and awesome food. Little Italy is fantastic if that is more your style - A great reastaurant on the main street in L.I. on right if going north, can't remember the name - it looks like a hole in the wall, but is absolutely fantastic!!!
