legolas_23 Posted October 26, 2010 #1 Share Posted October 26, 2010 I am currently studying for the NAUI certification. I know royal caribbean does open water check out dives for PADI, but was wondering if they do it for NAUI as well. Anybody know? thanks
The Flying Pirate Posted October 27, 2010 #2 Share Posted October 27, 2010 The dive shop on RCCL's ships uses PADI curriculum but the two are so close in certification that you wouldn't have any trouble going from one to the other. And if you have a PADI Open Water you can still get a NAUI Advanced Open Water. NAUI recognizes the PADI Open Water Certification for pursing advanced training. I have noticed a bigger difference between individual dive shops and instructors affiliated with both NAUI and PADI than between the two certification agencies. If you have the chance to finish your certification on-board don't pass it up because it is the "wrong" agency, use it as an opportunity to get experience and get diving! legolas_23 Posted October 28, 2010 Author #3 Share Posted October 28, 2010 So just to clarify what you're saying....If i go to the dive shop on an RCCL ship and ask to do my NAUI check out dives with them then that shouldn't be a problem. right? Bellfree Bat Posted October 28, 2010 #4 Share Posted October 28, 2010 Might be better to book your NAUI certification dives independantly on the islands. As the dive shop you are doing the class/pool work for referrals. They should be able to help. This is what I did years ago for my PADI certification. Capt_BJ Posted October 29, 2010 #5 Share Posted October 29, 2010 I did my original certification class a LONG time ago but I'm thinking I can read thru the lines here . . . - If you have completed NAUI classes it is possible you'd find a PADI school willing to do your check-out dives. They will then grant you PADI certification. - if you want NAUI cetification you need to do your check-out dives under NAUI instruction.
