Best Beaches Near Nassau?

What are the best beaches near Nassau? I've heard about buying day-passes to beaches, but Carnival only offers a day-pass to the Wyndham. Is there a way to buy a day-pass to the resort through the resort or some other source than the cruiseline?

I'm interested in public beaches, too.

Thank you!

Paradise Island has the nicest beaches by FAR.

Are you a crowd lover? If so, I'd buy the pass to the Atlantis.

I'm personally not a crowd person when I'm trying to relax on the beach and as such, my suggestion would be to go to Cabbage Beach (public beach on Paradise Island).

You can walk down (away from the Atlantis) and find a nice quite spot. Some areas as you walk down are private beaches for the other hotels / time shares that are along the beach, but there is plenty of space to go around once you leave the Atlantis area.

Although Cabbage Beach is a great beach, there are no amenities to be found there. Water can be quite rough and have an undertow at times.

It's fine for a short stay, but I wouldn't bring the little ones.

Junkanoo Beach, just a 10 min walk outside of downtown, is a free public beach and has concession stands, restrooms, as well as chairs and umbrellas to rent. It's got calm clear waters. Sections of the beach are a bit rocky. So flip flops or water shoes might be a good idea.

As far as day passes. The sheraton has a day pass for $25.. includes chairs, umbrellas, palapas, pools, gorgeous beach, plus all the amenities of a bar/grill/ cafe/ shopping/restrooms and most importantly.. lifeguards.

You can also snorkel and use the non-motorized water toys.

Hi Scubagirl,

In Dec, our ship is in port from 8am to 6pm. We are thinking to mosey off the ship (take our time, maybe late breakfast/early lunch, then head out), take a water taxi over to Paradise Island, look around at Atlantis just to see it, head back to mainland and go to Junkanoo beach or wander around near the port a bit before getting back on the ship before 5pm. Is this too much to cover? How often do the water taxis run? Thanks!!

Water taxi's run every 30 mins from 9am until around 5:30pm.

As for your plan.. it's doable, if you don't spend alot of time a Atlantis.

There's a walking tour available with some sites that may be of interest.

Doing this would give you a better free for the bahamas than the lobbies of Atlantis.

You seem like the expert in reguards to Nassau. Here is a few questions:

Our ship comes in at 1pm (5or 6 ships will be in port that day), and we sail at Midnight? Iam reading that the last ferry is around 4? We wanted to go do beach between 1-5, go back to ship for dinner, then back out to Atlantis to gamble at the casino appox 8pm-11pm will that work? how do we get around, or do you suggest one trip beach and casino same time? How hard is it to get around.

Thanks

Tammy

I'd do a local beach from 1 - 4ish.. then clean up, have dinner and head out to Atlantis or one of the other bars/hotels for some fun.

Ferries stop running around 5:30 in the winter. But taxi's are everywhere.. and should run about $5pp around the tourist areas (plus $1 toll for the bridge). Make sure you ask for the fare before entering. Some drivers are not so ethical.

Here's a link to the taxi fares:
