WendyJo Posted November 15, 2010 #1 Share Posted November 15, 2010 Why did TA say it would cost us extra if we were age 70 or over? Is this a standard cruiseline rule or just the TA?
AlanAllyn Posted November 15, 2010 #2 Share Posted November 15, 2010 Why did TA say it would cost us extra if we were age 70 or over? Is this a standard cruiseline rule or just the TA? I suspect TA is including insurance, some of which sets rates according to age. Indeed, many times, cruise lines offer discounts for seniors, usually a couple of months before sailing time. firefly333 Posted November 15, 2010 #3 Share Posted November 15, 2010 Many cruiseline have senior rates for age 55 and older .. I thought you were complaining that seniors get special rates
PennyAgain Posted November 15, 2010 #4 Share Posted November 15, 2010 I have never, ever heard of cruise lines charging more for people over 70. Ask your TA what she/he meant. It makes no sense at all.
uppitycats Posted November 15, 2010 #5 Share Posted November 15, 2010 I suspect the agent was including trip insurance in her cruise quote, and that DOES cost more for older people. We started paying more for the same coverage when we both reached 60.
paul929207 Posted November 15, 2010 #6 Share Posted November 15, 2010 Other than the insurance which is priced based on age, there is no extra charge for 70's that I have heard of. Did you ask the TA what the charge is?

griffy116 Posted November 15, 2010 #8 Share Posted November 15, 2010 First, ask the TA why she is suggesting the cost is higher based on your age. The cruise fare is the same if you are 7 mos or 70 years. I always purchase travel insurance. Travel insurance is higher because it's based on age and cost of the cruise and airfare. If you get an answer that involves anything other than travel insurance you need a new TA. The insurance is optional and I always purchase it outside the cruiseline or TA, just to avoid any conflict of interest if I file a claim. She should have explained the cost. sail7seas Posted November 15, 2010 #9 Share Posted November 15, 2010 What cruise line? Are you sure your TA is reputable? I'd hate to think any possibility of a 'senior scam' by a less than honorable TA. I agree the insurance issue is the only legitimate reason I can think of.
