Rare Keith1010 Posted December 3, 2010 #2 Share Posted December 3, 2010 I don't think any luxury cruise line should be offering any type of movie on board the ship where they would charge for the movie whether it is the type you described or a first run movie. wripro Posted December 3, 2010 #4 Share Posted December 3, 2010 Just be grateful that they don't charge your automatically for the porn like they do for charity. I agree with Keith that a luxury line should not charge for any kind of movie. But then they shouldn't charge for alternative restaurants either. CruisinPashmina Posted December 6, 2010 #6 Share Posted December 6, 2010 Well, well, finally there is a mention of the pornography, adult movies, or whatever the designation, on the Spirit. I honestly could care less what anyone watches in the privacy of their homes, but I can't believe that SS would "offer", shall we say, alternative entertainment, on their elegant ships. Yet another reason why we prefer the other four Silvers...No extra charge video entertainment. Even if a few passengers love this kind of thing, it really doesn't belong on Silversea. Does anyone know if Seaborne or Regent offers this "option"? I have to think this is another disturbing OPT OUT SS experience..you can block out the movies in question, but do you want to look at the gross titles as you scroll thru the offered movies, and then, totally surprised and horrified, try to figure out how to opt out? The Charity opt out almost seems mild in comparison. Almost. Hypocrisy: the professing of beliefs or virtues one does not possess.

On a cruise I am there and would prefer watching the water go by and reading about the next port we are to visit. I guess some people go on cruises because their spouse wants to, but are bored so need some movies. On an all inclusive they shouldn't be charged. Sounds like the same "genius" who dream up the force charity contribution has been at it again. Not a smart move. Maybe it will create a little extra in fees, but at what price? It doesn't reflect well on the overall image of high quality associated with Silversea. Just because it is possible with new technology to provide pay-of-view movies doesn't mean that you should do it. THANKS! Enjoy! ging466 Posted December 6, 2010 #13 Share Posted December 6, 2010 At the risk of getting flamed, I really don't see the big deal here. Yes when I turned my TV on, I did see that there were Adult movies. They didn't interest me and I moved on to the movies that did interest me. IMHO, choice is good. I don't believe it is cheapening the SS brand at all. Cheers Jennifer
Goldens4 Posted December 7, 2010 #14 Share Posted December 7, 2010 I wonder when SS is going to have a cartoon channel for all the tykes they are bringing aboard. Maybe a good idea. Keep the little monsters in their suites and away from the rest of us.:D
Focused1 Posted December 7, 2010 #15 Share Posted December 7, 2010 Certainly, one can find adult movies available in one's room for a premium in the finest hotels around the world. Why criticize Silversea for simply offering a variety of options for its diverse clientele? --"different strokes for different folks" -no pun intended! cruiseerf Posted December 7, 2010 #16 Share Posted December 7, 2010 I think Silversea is smart! These movie companies sold in hotels around the world rarely speak the fact that ADULT movies make up 95% of purchased movies....I worked on a stock offering once. That is why there is never a title listed, just "in room movie". These are almost exclusively rented by men and is in the billions of $$$ ...ladies...when your husband is away he is not always thinking of you. The information is there and it is an extremely lucrative business. While their wives are shopping I think many men will be watching.......though why softporn and not the real thing? America is a free country....anyone can choose to watch an adult movie......or not. Casino's can sell gambling services outside the three mile limit.....What happens on cruise ships often stays on cruise ships as there is no accountability (QM2 black out....etc). Pornography in America alone is 20+billion dollars per year. I am not here to judge ...and...business is business. If you don't want adult movies in your cabin.....then request they be blocked prior to boarding like you do a bottle of wine or scotch be delivered. Silversea is a premium cruiseline and would surely accommodate this request. I do not begrudge their trying to make extra money. And with marriage statistics what they are these days.......Let the cards fall as they may. We are all fighting an uphill battle. Enjoyable sailing to all! oregon50 Posted December 7, 2010 #17 Share Posted December 7, 2010 WOW! some on here are way off the deep end. 1) Seabourn does not offer this service, but they do have Cartoon Network. Believe Spirit has Cartoon Network, also. 2) You cannot see the gross titles of Adult films, unless you click on the Adult film search. You have to go out of your way to see the titles. 3) Interactive television....there is a record of everything you order/watch. Whether you are a pervert watching Fox News, Cartoon Network, or Mary Poppins....in the office they can monitor whatever comes across your screen. 4) $18 is outrageous and eliminates all temptation to order such films. Atomica Posted December 7, 2010 #18 Share Posted December 7, 2010 Return On Investment: those fancy in-mirror TV's and video-on-demand system don't pay for themselves. But they can be helped along a little with an $18 fee per show for porn. Most hotels have adult movies. A quick Google search will give you all the "adult movies" you can handle. But like anything, it is up to you what you choose to watch. As long as it's out of the way so kids won't find it, or it can be locked out, I have no problem with it. If they're offering it...someone must be buying it.
Goldens4 Posted December 7, 2010 #19 Share Posted December 7, 2010 It's not a big deal. If you want it you want it. If you don't you don't.
wripro Posted December 8, 2010 #20 Share Posted December 8, 2010 My problem is not with the fact that SS is offering adult movies, As others have said it's up to the individual to choose if they want it or not. My problem is that they charge extra for it, another violation of the all inclusive policy on SS.
