kiwi sailor Posted December 19, 2010 #1 Share Posted December 19, 2010 Totally horrible weather in Auckland today so didn't get any exterior photos of the open deck area on the Pearl. I'm not the world's best photographer so forgive me if they are not that great. I took over 130 photos so will load some of them up over several attempts. Generally they have done an excellent job in all the public areas with the refit. As we boarded at least 70 workmen were disembarking to board buses to go to the airport. There was a lot of areas they were still working on and we couldn't film there. EG Spa, Turtle Cove, Marquee Theatre. Part two to follow.

kiwi sailor Posted December 19, 2010 Author #7 Share Posted December 19, 2010 Nice, but what you would expect on a Balcony Suite on Princess or RCCL. Being a Mini-Suite I was expecting it to be a bit bigger.

kiwi sailor Posted December 19, 2010 Author #11 Share Posted December 19, 2010 Was the Blue Bar on the Ocean Village. Drink prices will hurt here. $16 for a whisky. Cocktails in the Connexions Bar were around AU$9.25 each. If I knew how I would have loaded these photos a lot bigger. I get a 10 year old to help me next time. kiwi sailor Posted December 19, 2010 Author #21 Share Posted December 19, 2010 Hi Kiwi Sailor. Thanks so much for putting the photos on here for all of us. What is your impression of the ship? We who are booked on her cann't get enough photos or any information. I hope the weather there will improve for the BIG DAY &1st SAILAWAY. Suexxx I'm back on board Tuesday night so will take some more photos. If you have any questions, put them up before Tuesday and I'll find the answers for you. The public areas are really well appointed and some great ideas, the cabins/suites could do with a little more work. EG chairs on the balconies are old and faded, bathrooms haven't been touched. But I don't intend on spending much time in my cabin anyway. I have picked out the Dome as one of my favourite spots already.
sheeper370 Posted December 19, 2010 #22 Share Posted December 19, 2010 Was the Blue Bar on the Ocean Village. Drink prices will hurt here. $16 for a whisky. Cocktails in the Connexions Bar were around AU$9.25 each. Good grief!! I've heard that your average antipodean enjoys a drink or two but I don't think I'd enjoy a drink in this bar at these prices surrounded by Aussie and NZ cruisers quietly sobbing into their glasses whilst staring mournfully at their drinks menus. Seriously though, these are steep prices. I'm also surprised at how much P&O is charging you for the actual cruises. I guess it's supply and demand. With more ships now operating out of the area the prices may come down - I hope so for you folks. You are inheriting a great vessel and I hope that she has lost nothing in the transfer from Ocean Village to P&O. I'm told that about 65% of the crew have made the transition with the ship and to my mind they were the greatest asset. I'm still in touch with many of them via email and Facebook etc and every single one of them are gems - always a polite greeting and smile, they made the cruise special for me every time. They work so hard. Enjoy!! I hope to come down under one day and resume my rightful place in 11092 (A92) when the prices have dropped a bit, the novelty has worn off and when the full capacity sailings have diminished! Australian family Posted December 19, 2010 #24 Share Posted December 19, 2010 Great photos. To get larger photos you need to uplift to a site like photobucket.com which is a free site. Then you need to copy the IMG link to cruise critic. A bit painful, but worth the effort.
