My Disappointing Cruise... Valor Dec 12-19 Review

I appreciate where this reviewer is coming from- as a non-party personality, I found sea days to be quite boring. There wasn't much to do at all besides trivia (which was always incredibly crowded) and eat- and I don't like overeating! I enjoyed the "nothingness" but worried my husband, who I convinced to come cruising with me would be really bored, so my worrying got in the way of my fun of relaxing.

This cruise, we picked a more port intensive itinerary and are prepared that there won't be anything we like to do on sea days (we don't drink, we don't gamble...) so we're bringing some games to play, an extra book or two, and we are going to try to force ourselves to do a bit more of the organized fun- things like karaoke which we do not normally do.

That said- we always enjoyed the shows and the comedians, but during the day- there was A LOT of downtime. If you aren't a party personality, Carnival might not be for you. For someone like me who doesn't enjoy hanging out on the Lido or in the casino, you need to be prepared for downtime, and I think some people expect to be entertained.

Yeah, i hear ya'. Sea days used to be boring to me as well. Then I discovered Mushrooms! Wow, what a difference! Not boring now...JK!

Haha! Mushrooms + Carnival Decor + A Moving Ship... sounds like it would either be a great time or a recipe for disaster! And with "Scooby" as a user name, do you really expect us to believe you're kidding? :D :p

Sorry you didn't seem to enjoy your cruise. We are primarily Carnival cruisers but did try the Oasis this year. Frankly we found the cruising experience about the same. Big diference was all the stuff to do on Oasis not usually found on Carnival -- problem was most of it cost extra. Found most everything on RCCL was just a "little bit" more. Don't think we needed 6 or 8 additional cost resturants, don't rock climb and I can get a hamburger for free why would I want to pay for one??

Didn't see anything on RCCL that would preclude us from cruising them again but most times you just can't beat the price between Carnival and RCCL - with what amounts to the same crusie experience.

OP if you came on here ahead of time, you knew anytime dining was in the middle dining room, so almost always you get assigned the back dining room for traditional. I know its a long walk for us too.

We were on the Valor Thanksgiving week and our cabins were all the way forward (some in our group were all the way aft and some were near the middle of the ship). We had late dining and were assigned to Lincoln -- the middle dining room.

To the OP, sorry you didn't find things better on the Valor. We had a different experience and were very happy with our cruise. Did they not have a deck party one night with a Mexican buffet? There was one on our Valor cruise (and every Carnival cruise we've been on in the last few years). Other nights we enjoyed watching movies and football games on the big screen on the Lido deck. Our cruising habits have changed over the years and we don't pay much attention to the daytime activities anymore. We find other ways to enjoy the ship (water slide, etc.) during our sea days instead of participating in group activities. I know there were dance classes (because my SIL tried to get me to go) and game shows, etc. during the day. Did they not have any of those things either? I hope your next cruise is more to your liking!

The photographers drive me crazy on Carnival, I understand it's a large source of income but do they really need to "sell" their services so much!

I have to admit I am one of those that like to lie in the sun with a book so I have never notice what the entertainment is or isn't on sea days! Some of my favourite evening activities our the shows, piano bar and karaoke (as audience member only) ! Not for everyone and it varies depending on the mix of audience and staff leading it. I've seen the good, bad and the ugly!

Mark Anthony is one of my all time favourite shows! Must see for all!
