pizza recomendations

We ate at one that was 99.9% locals one night while precruise in Rome our last trip. I am sorry I don't know the name but it is right behind the Pantheon. If you take the street to the right as you are looking at the Pantheon it is 1 to 1.5 blocks back on the left. It was mostly students (university or grad) and locals and very noisy...... very Italian !!! Pizza was pretty good too.

We also ate lunch while "on the run" on our first trip at a wonderful little hole in the wall pizza place near the Vatican....... 5 euros = personal pizza, desert and a drink. Tiny place. Big sign out front. Also to the right of the Vatican when facing it. About 2 blocks down.

Now, after all that..... my best piece of advice is don't spend alot of time trying to find a restaurant that someone else has recommended. Not that it won't be good, its just that you can use up alot of time getting from A to B. There are tons of good places to eat in Rome. Find something close to where you are staying. Follow the locals -they know the good spots ;)

Hi all! I'm looking for some good (and well priced) pizza places in Rome, Messina (Sicily), and Naples. Any reccomendations would be great! Thanks! :)

Tell us more on what you mean by "well priced". Do you mean cheap? In many parts of Italy, their version of pizza is much, much different than what we get in the USA. The crust is lots thinner and many are cooked in wood-fired ovens. Their sauce might be less thickly applied and the toppings can be different.

What specifically are you seeking . . . and expecting?

THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio

If you’re looking for pizza in Naples, you need to head for L’antica Pizzeria “da Michele.” It’s an easy 20-30 minute walk from the port depending where your ship docks.

This is the home of pizza. You will not be disappointed!

Enjoy…

Thats exaclty why we want to try pizza in these different locales...for the variety and difference...its all part of the experience. We are not necessarily looking for the cheapest pizza, but we also don't want to spend a ton of money on food (since we have the ship at our disposal). We are looking more for a sampling.

Thanks all for the responses already, IMHO you can never have too many suggestions... :)

Many lists and polls will tell you that "Da Baffetos" has the best pizza in Rome.I don't know if it is the best because I have not tried them all but it is darn good.It is located about 1/2 block from Piazza Navona.I think the total cost for 2 people was about 23 euro which included 1/2 carafe of their house wine and 2 small pizzas..Don't expect polite, fawning treatment though,it is very Roman and very busy and we loved it.Just cracked us up.They throw papers down on the table and you share a table for 8 with other patrons.Such fun as we had Germans on one side and Aussies on the other. No lingering over dinner as when you are done it is out the door with you! If that kind of thing bothers you go someplace else.:D You have to get there when they open at 6:30 or before. We ate went out the side door and the line was 2 blocks long within 1 hour or so of when we went in. For the very best gelato in all of Rome IMHO the "Fridgidarium" is right next door! We ate gelato a lot during the week we were in Rome.

In Rome all is good. The pizza is great. Around every tourist site, there will be a place selling pizza. They won't be hard to find.

In Rome the pizza is rectangular, not round in most places. They ask you how big a piece you want, cut it off, weigh it and figure the cost. They wrap in it in paper and you are on your way.

Have fun, enjoy Rome and enjoy the pizza.
