cruzaddict Posted March 1, 2005 #1 Share Posted March 1, 2005 So when you get your "cruise card" at the pier, you have to give them a credit card right? Do you have to have a "huge" credit limit on your card to cover your charges during the cruise? Or do they base it on a "per day" basis, like $50.00 per day? I was just curious. Also, can you give them cash to put against your account or is it better to put it on a credit card?
D&L Posted March 1, 2005 #2 Share Posted March 1, 2005 We use Amex so there's no limit questions or problems. Just be prepared to pay the balance in full when you get home.
doree Posted March 1, 2005 #3 Share Posted March 1, 2005 You have to give them a CC at the pier.....and whatever you get charged goes on that card - OR you can pay cash and wait in line. I assume if there is a limit......they will know when you board?????. We have never had a problem. You can pull cash out of the casino -- in chips -- if you need them.....gets you FF miles - and just pay off your CC!!!
Italian Nancy Posted March 1, 2005 #4 Share Posted March 1, 2005 We sailed on the summit Nov5-15th, and at the time, the us dollar was low to our Canadian dollar, so I brought cash with me, used the credit card to register with, but went down the night before disembarkment and made a huge payment on the bill, the remainder stayed on the credit card.. Funny how all those little items add up over days.. or maybe it is just my taste in good wines that did me in..lol.. :p
LoneStarJeffe Posted March 2, 2005 #5 Share Posted March 2, 2005 Settlement is easier if it is on a credit card. However, you can change the card you use during the voyage. They only allow one card so it is probably best to decide in advance. Also, there is an ATM available for cash withdrawals at $5 a pop. I would love to know just how much higher the average bill is per passenger since they went to the "sail and sign" cards. It is real easy to forget you will have to settle up at the end of the trip when using them. I checked my bill several times during the cruise for both accuracy and the running total. You might as well call them "sail and SIGH" cards...:)

You might as well call them "sail and SIGH" cards...:) We started with Celebrity back in 1992 and they have always used a cashless sail and sign system. Back then the card had raised info and your charge was run through a credit card stamper (the kind that you put the credit card under the bill and pulled the handle) or you just wrote your name and cabin number on the bill. You had to wait until mid cruise when an itemized bill was slipped under your door so that you had some idea of how much you were spending. So much better now that you can check out your account on the TV and take care of mischarges as soon as they occur.
bluehorizonlover123 Posted March 2, 2005 #7 Share Posted March 2, 2005 They do not check your credit limit on your card. If you go over your limit you will be responsible for the charges for over draft that your credit card charges. The cruise ship will not check your credit limit at the pier. Longboysfan Posted March 2, 2005 #8 Share Posted March 2, 2005 And remember - Don't go near the ATM machine. If you need cash. Think. The day or night before go to the casino. Get a cash advance against your cruise card. This is treated as a ship charge. Not a cash advance. You can do this for your tips also. And if you bring a bit of extra cash you could just pay down your ship board bill a day or so before your cruise ends.
AFT_LOVER Posted March 2, 2005 #9 Share Posted March 2, 2005 When we got to the casino cage to cash in our onboard credit, we get cash not chips.
AFT_LOVER Posted March 2, 2005 #10 Share Posted March 2, 2005 Which I find amazing as they have had the credit card # since you made you reservation & on onboard docs. They turn them over to company in Miami who OKs the use. On Princess's first cruise our AMEX was rejected per a letter to us on day 3 of the cruise, tho we have unlimited credit & -0- balance since I paid it off before we sailed. We were in Alaska at the time, so I phoned AMEX on my cell right in front of the purser, and they blasted him for harassing good customers. So they apolgized, gave us $100 credit for the mistake & all was good. On Connie an NBC sports dude was paged to come to the desk & he was told his credit card was no good. He was really mad! He also called AMEX, which was his card also & gave the phone to the clerk to be blasted. So whomever this credit check company in Maimi is, they are really blowing it on good folks, and some may not cruise again due to it.
cruzaddict Posted March 2, 2005 Author #11 Share Posted March 2, 2005 Thank you all for your great replies! I don't know why I was worried to begin with,we've never had a problem before! I filled out my online docs already...is there a place in these docs where I can fill out my credit card info ahead of time....I know we did that with princess in the past? Plus, I have never even come close to my credit card limit on any of my cruises.
