I just booked this tour,We never been to Alaska before but have been on 4 Caribbean cruises with RCCL and CCL.There is 4 of us 2 adults(parents) and 2 teenagers(18,17).I was wondering at each port is there places to just walk around and shop.I noticed the excursions are very exspensive in Alaska and when paying for 4 people it adds up fast considering we have other travel cost to get to Seattle etc.. Can we have a good trip with just doing free stuff in each port?? Thanks

There is a whole range of excursions to consider, BUT, I would never get to Alaska and expect to do all "free stuff", if your budget is that tight. This itinerary is lacking to begin with, with glacier access, at the least you may want to get to Mendenhall Glacier. The port areas are not where "Alaska" is either, without making some very good plans and doing your homework. I suggest you head to your library, take out Fodor's Alaska Frommer's Alaska, Alaska By Cruiseships and look over the ports carefully. Request visitor guides http://www.skagway.com http://www.traveljuneau.com http://www.visit-ketchikan.com

There are LOW cost touring options to consider, but look at getting out of the ports and shopping areas. You may want to rethink your "shoppinig" and put that money towards some tours.

You might want to check out a website called cruises dot com, they have shore excursions that are much cheaper than the ship excursions and basically are the same thing.
