Soda and Water

Recommended Posts

You will find conflicting information on that. The actual information from RCI says that they do not allow any beverages ( alcoholic and non-alcoholic) but most report that they do not have a problem bringing on soda/water in reasonable amounts.

Why do people keep asking the same questions over and over again?

Just bring the clothing you need for the cruise, including the proper attire for the MDR on formal and informal nights.

All water, soda and alcohol can be purchased on the ship.

Now enjoy your cruise.

"WE" keep asking the same question because of the conflicting information !!!! as for bringing what is only required,,, I would like to sit in my stateroom and have a soda or water without having to go to a bar to get it... I'm not cheating the system, we have purchased the soda program... I am so tired of "YOU" hypocrites putting down ppl who are just trying to have an enjoyable cruise......:D

We just returned from the 1/16 Explorer out of Bayonne. We put a case of bottled water in a backpack and checked it. It was delivered to our cabin with no problem. It kept us almost through the entire cruise. We purchased 3 bottles on board for a cost of around $13 so it was certainly worth the effort to try to bring some on board.

Since you know the information is conflicting, what makes you think your question will change things  Risk it or don't.

We are sailing with RCCL for the 1st time this year, so can someone explain how the soda package works with them? I've only cruised Carnival and I'm not sure if it's the same or not.

Thanks!

For the soda package, you pay a set fee, based on the length of the cruise, and are able to order sodas from the bars/restaurants for no additional charge. Last I saw, it was $6 ($4 for children) + 15% gratuity per day, and you can only buy it as a package for the full number of days (or really nights) of the cruise. You also get a mug/tumbler you can use, but you don't have to carry that around, if you don't want to.

We purchased two soda cards on our Celebrity cruise in March 2009 but found that we really only needed one, i.e. one of us could go up and get a soda and then go back and get another one for the other. Is that the case on RCCL? We don't drink a lot of soda but I like to have one in the morning and don't want to pay for two soda cards if we can 'share' one.

GOOD for you for asking this question, as I was wondering the same thing myself!!! and thank you for standing up for yourself!

(People on these boards are so critical soemtimes and take things so personally... if you dont want to answer a post on these boards, than dont answer them and dont read them if you dont agree!!!! )

I TOTALLY agree with brining soda on the ship... its annoying when you're thirsty to have to get up, stop what you're doing, leave your cabin and go down to a bar just for a soda.

Sorry, this questions gets asked daily, sometimes multiple times. The answers usually conflict based on several variables. There is no definitive answer. Do a search and make your decision. It's a silly question that keeps getting asked.

Well, that's not allowed on Celebrity or RC, but you can do it. It's sort of like going to a buffet restaurant, paying for one, but both of you helping yourselves.

Uh, that's considered theft (not to mention uber tacky) - kinda like going into an all-you-can-eat buffet with your spouse and saying "well, I don't eat much, so he can just bring me an extra plate." Doesn't work that way at all. If you only want an occasional soda, you can certain buy a can when you want one.

If that's your only issue, there is a "mini-bar" in your cabin stocked with soda and water - quite handy. Having said that, I don't think anyone has ever had an issue with bringing a reasonable amount of either on board. We bring some diet Pepsi as DH hates Coke and takes meds that dry out his throat so needs something fizzy. One for each day of the cruise. Bring a couple of sports bottles with water and then refill on the ship as their water is perfectly good.

Actually, there is no conflicting information that I'm aware of. If you look for the policy on what you can bring onboard, it will say that you're not supposed to bring on any beverages. What may be perceived as conflicting is that they really don't care and don't tend to enforce that rule, when it comes to non-alcoholic beverages.

So, it's not really conflicting information. It is a policy that you're not supposed to, but it is a policy that is rarely enforced.

Just to clarify....we did not do this on Celebrity as we both had a soda card but, for the amount we drink (which is not a lot) it seemed silly to buy two. Second of all, I would never do that at a buffet (actually can't stand buffets but that is another story)

I don't know, I see how you can classify it as 'theft' (although that is a bit extreme IMO) but considering the amount of money they will get from us via alcoholic beverages, spa treatments and the casino, I hardly think that my husband getting one or two sodas off my card would be a big deal. Someone could get one card and drink 50 sodas in a week, whereas my husband and I together might only drink 15?

All in all, I get your point. I am sure we all do things that each other would consider tacky, it's life. I guess I should have simply asked how the soda card worked, i.e. if it was similar to Celebrity with the sticker on your seapass, rather than open myself up for rash judgements.

If you only drink 15 sodas in a week, between the two of you, then you're better off just buying them individually, rather than paying for a soda package. I don't see it as rash judgments - just a fact that buying a soda package for one person and sharing it between two is dishonest in the same way that the buffet example would be dishonest. Doesn't matter if some people might eat more at the buffet than the two of you combined or that some people might drink more soda than the two of you combined.

I wish to reply to the ORIGINAL QUESTION. I too found the information somewhat confusing so I emailed RCI and asked. I am quoting the response I received this morning....

"Thank you for your email. We apologize for the delay in our response.

Royal Caribbean International prohibits food or beverages from being brought onboard. However, guests may have one bottle of water as a carry-on while checking in. Guests must have purchased the bottle of water for personal consumption while traveling to the port and be in the process of consuming it."

After 30+ cruises on RCI, I must say that I am disappointed in this (new to me) policy, but then they have every right to whatever policy they choose.

As to all of the ugliness above, why do so many feel that they have a right to make negative comments when someone is simply trying to gain information? I guess I will never understand......

Their responses to this question get more ridiculous by the day! So, I can't just take a water bottle from my house, I have to purchase it on my way to the port and be drinking it??

Yes, you can bring a reasonable amount of soda and water. Yes, it is against the current policy to do so. Yes, sometimes they stop you. Yes, sometimes they don't. Yes, it is worth trying for some. yes, it isn't worth trying for others.

Crystal clear.

the only problem with the soda cards is that you can't get a can of soda, only mixed soda from a bar. correct me if I'm wrong but this was our experience on prior cruises.
