sansterre Posted April 23, 2011 #126 Share Posted April 23, 2011 Its just fun:)love to do it! I hope you will have a great cruise and a wonderful day in Ålesund. I wish I would come with you guys but as we are opening this new baby (read hotel) July 6 we are swamped with work:) You mean June, not July, right? How much should we expect to pay for a beer in Alesund? Are there any Norway brews? What's on tap? BTW, I am curious about family in Cuba.

What's on tap?BTW, I am curious about family in Cuba. No:) I do mean July:) Yes, there are many many Norwegian breweries...Hansa, Ringnes, Mack, Tou...are among the largest. I prefer microbreweries. The onse to look out for are: Nøgne O, Kinn, Atna, Aegir....The list do go on. You will find the largest breweries on tap. Only specialist bars have micro brews on tap. We will have a beer bar:) The price for a beer is around $10 in a restaurant/bar....but you will get more than a bottle...usually a large glass is 0.4 or 0.5. I am married to a Cuban so my mother in law etc is in Cuba....They are the sweetest people and we get to see them every other year or so....Actually, I dont mind having them on the other side of the world:D:D (nah, kidding) You should have been here today: the weather is in the mid 70Fs and no clouds....perfect weather:) Fingers crossed the rest of the spring and summer will be like today. Get it in Norway! We had the Hansa beer in Bergen. Hansa is Norway's second most popular in sales and is brewed in Bergen. Mack's brewery is located near Tromsø and is considered the world's northernmost brewery. Beer in Norway has a long history, going back at least 1000 years. Until around 200 years ago no farm was complete without a brewhouse.:
Rare marazul Posted April 26, 2011 #129 Share Posted April 26, 2011 Lars, here is a strange question. Some friends are also going on our cruise, but do not want to drive with us to Runde and go for a hike to see the birds, etc. He's got a bad knee and has trouble on uneven terrain. However, they would really love to see puffins! Are they around the shore in Alesund, nearby? They are also considering the tour to Fiske and Godoy (despite your advice), are there any puffins out there? And thanks again for your advice on the fast boat and car rental. We are all set with that.

Maybe you can hike over the mountain to get there, too. That was our experience when there on our adventure from Alesund. We didn't have the time that day to get the boat and go around to there. Fortunately, we got to see hundreds of thousands of puffins at the bird island near the North Cape. Below are a couple of puffin visuals. [b']Cute, cute birds!!! [/b] THANKS! Enjoy! lancashire_cruisers Posted May 2, 2011 #133 Share Posted May 2, 2011 Hi We'll be in Alesund on 31st May which is pretty much before the majority of tours are up and running for the holiday season. Does anyone know if there is a bus that runs from Alesund to the Sea Park and where we would catch it from? Thanks in advance Debbie:)

OkieBoy40 Posted May 3, 2011 #136 Share Posted May 3, 2011 Lars, read all your posts, well, most of them. Helped make up our mind about this port. We'll rent a car and head out for Gieranger. If you have some time, can you post links to the Magerholm-Orsneset, Hellesylt-Gieranger, and Eidsdal-Lige ferries, I didn't see them and can not seem to navigate backwards from the links posted. We are really excited about this, and are very grateful for all the information you have shared.

Another option if the ship is staying in Ålesund for 12 hours is to do the Hurtigruten fromm Ålesund to Geiranger. The ship departs Ålesund at 930am and arrives Geiranger at aprox 130pm. (cruising the fjords) Disembark in Geiranger and take the bus tour arranged by hurtigruten back to Ålesund. Arrival in Ålesund will be at aprox 6pm. Here is a link to hurtigruten: http://hurtigruten.us/norway/ If this is an option I would arrange fjord cruise and tour before travelling.

sansterre Posted July 14, 2011 #140 Share Posted July 14, 2011 l.myren We had a great time in your lovely town. The "train" ride was delightful and the view was grand. I would have liked to have met you. Thank you, again, for the great information.

Rare Hlitner Posted July 28, 2011 #145 Share Posted July 28, 2011 (edited) car hire alseund. where did you pick the car up from? port or in town? cost? thanks We rented from Budget where we got a very small car for 487 Kroner (about $90). The Budget site is actually handled inside a 7-11 Store (10 - 15 min ez walk from the ship) which is very convenient since you can fill the tank right at the 7-11 upon return. We also noticed that Avis had an office next door. Keep in mind that this is Norway where gas costs around $12 a gallon. Our car was small (had a 6 speed manual shift) with a 1.3 liter engine but it was perfect for the 2 of us and handled the steep grades with no problem. Hank P.S. The pier is Alesund is located right in town. Edited July 28, 2011 by Hlitner

We also don't want to rent a car. Thanks... The only options are the bus or a taxi. The easiest and most expensive would be taxi. You can catch the bus from close to where the ship docks. You catch the bus from Ålesund to Valderøy (Ytterland). Change there for the bus to Godøy/Alnes. You can also take the boat from Ålesund to Valderøy and then bus to Godøy/Alnes. This link and search site will give you the bus routes from Ålesund to Alnes. http://www.177mr.no/ It doesnt seem like the search excepts Alesund but only ÅLESUND. Copy and paste into the search engine and you should be fine. The option for Alnes is ALNES BEDEHUS or ALNES SKULE. If you have any problems please let me know. I-Cruiser Posted June 30, 2013 #150 Share Posted June 30, 2013 Very helpful and much appreciated... How much do you think a taxi would cost ? ( an approximation) Thanks Kim Below are the fares from one taxi company. The drive from Ålesund to Alnes will take approx 20 minutes one way. It depends how much time you would like to spend at Alnes. Would 20 minutes be enough to see the lighthouse.?? For me, I would say 20 minutes is a bit rushed because when you are there you might want to walk around the village - Take it all in. I would suggest to spend 45 minutes-1 hour at Alnes lighthouse. Sightseeing tours (suggestions - from centre of Aalesund): Fjellstua tour, inclusive waiting until 30 minutes. Sunnmøre museum tour, incl. waiting until 30 min. Atlantic Park aquarium tour, inclusive waiting until 30 min. Giske church tour, inclusive waiting until 20 min. Alnes lighthouse tour, inclusive waiting until 15 min. One of options- up to 1 hour: Up to 4 passengers NOK 685, - Up to 8 passengers NOK 1.050, - Up to 11 passengers NOK 1.375, - Up to 16 passengers NOK 1.900, - combination of these options up to 3 hours: < 4 passengers NOK 2.000, - < 8 passengers NOK 3.300, - < 11 passenger NOK 4.000, - < 16 passengers NOK 4.700, - You can contact the taxi company using this email address: taxi@alesund-taxi.no or this: ledelse@alesund-taxi.no
