Mr. Luckytoo Posted February 3, 2011 #27 Share Posted February 3, 2011 So here is my question. If you could on an 11 day Celebrity cruise for FREE, as long as you and your spouse refrained from ALL alcohol, would you do it? In a heartbeat because as it is now we did a 10-day Celebrity cruise alcohol free and PAID for it.
Mr. Luckytoo Posted February 3, 2011 #28 Share Posted February 3, 2011 i agree with above post, and don't understand the point of this thread. can you give up the waffle station................ stop smoking.................. skip desserts..................... no sex................... of course i'd give up booze for a free cruise............if you can't, you have a problem............... I was with you up to that point.
SilkShirt Posted February 3, 2011 Author #29 Share Posted February 3, 2011 erm..am I missing something...what is the point of this thread exactly? The cruise lines is counting on alcohol sales to make a profit. The discussion is to see if alcohol is really a necessity for most people who cruise. No one is judging you or forcing you to answer. wvufan Posted February 3, 2011 #30 Share Posted February 3, 2011 I have been on the equivalent of 24 cruises without alcohol. I would not take a free cruise if I HAD to drink. Happy Sails to You OOOEEE :D:D Bob and Phyl
Rare ORV Posted February 3, 2011 #31 Share Posted February 3, 2011 Just to take a different point of view I would turn it down. I easily could go without alcohol that long but we go on a vacation for enjoyment. Part of that enjoyment is a relaxing drink as we watch the world go by. To each their own. jaybird from SC Posted February 3, 2011 #32 Share Posted February 3, 2011 When comparing vacations, Resorts like Sandals include food and alcohol, most cruise lines include food, and make a big profit on the alcohol. For non alcohol drinkers the cruise is a better value. The cruise industry must feel that you need booze to have a good time. This is their biggest profit center. They need to push the drinks. For a percentage of folks it's true. Alcohol is the foundation of their cruise and their biggest expense. So here is my question. If you could on an 11 day Celebrity cruise for FREE, as long as you and your spouse refrained from ALL alcohol, would you do it? Wouldn't be a problem for us. We don't drink..Don't need alcohol to have a good time.

Silk Shirt - I could very easily go without a drink during a cruise because I very rarely drink. The only reason I drink at all during a cruise is because I feel pressured to buy one if I am sitting in a ship's public lounge area for a long period of time. Milo_27 Posted February 3, 2011 #35 Share Posted February 3, 2011 I could do a free cruise with no alcohol. Doesn't mean I'd choose to though ! By the sounds of this thread it must be getting very busy on the moral high ground !!!!!!!

Some folks are honest enough to admit that they would give up a FREE 11 night Celebrity cruise if they couldn't have alcohol. That's not misleading. Whilst everyone else says yes, they would forego alcohol if it meant they'd cop for a free cruise. So it is misleading

Joedog Posted February 3, 2011 #40 Share Posted February 3, 2011 During the 1st Persian Gulf war I (and 800 other sailors and marines) spent 99 days at sea without pulling into any port. During that time we were given 2 beers each, every 45 days. Period. I am not sure if you are familiar with the phrase "Drunk as a Sailor" but it is NOT an accident that that phrase exists. If I (and 800 other sailors and marines) can go 44 days without any alcohol then it should be a "piece of cake" for an "average" drinker to go 11 days. That said, I wouldnt want to go on a free 11 day cruise if I couldnt have a piece of cake (or the dessert equivilent). Oh, and unlike most who answered here that they dont drink much so they could do it, I do drink. Oh, oh.....those of you who found it necessary to post a post asking why this thread is necessary....I would ask you why did you find it necessary to post such an unnecessary post BUT in answer to your unnecessary question....I think we were just having a little fun. cl.klink Posted February 3, 2011 #41 Share Posted February 3, 2011 In a selfless act of pure altruism, and prompted purely by a sense of scientific discovery, I volunteer myself to go on such a free cruise for the purpose of educating the Cruise Critic community, and learning whether or not one can cruise as suggested in this thread. No, really. I am willing to put myself out there for you all. It's a sacrifice I am willing to make. When do I pack? - Joel
Blue46 Posted February 3, 2011 #42 Share Posted February 3, 2011 Now I like a good cocktail every once in a while, but as long as I can have my coffee in the morning and diet coke the rest of the day, I would have no problem not drinking alcohol. When do we leave.:p

tispwisp Posted February 4, 2011 #46 Share Posted February 4, 2011 No problem! DH doesn't drink alcohol at all and I could easily give up the 3-4 drinks per cruise that I drink (and that's the max I drink). Many times both of us have gone without alcohol for entire cruises. Now giving up diet coke on the other hand might be more difficult for me... Bring on the free cruise!!!
SusieV Posted February 4, 2011 #47 Share Posted February 4, 2011 Heck no. Enjoy my meals without any wine? No cocktails during the day or in the evening? I drink more on a cruise than I probably do the rest of the year combined. It's part of my vacation (and yes, I spend more personally on alcohol than I do on my cruise fare!). hildacloake Posted February 4, 2011 #48 Share Posted February 4, 2011 Sure I would do it, and my husband would too. We never drink any more (did drink when we were younger and we both realized that you don't need alcohol to have a good time!!) As a matter of fact, life is way better without it. This is why we're better off cruising rather than going to resorts. :p :p

bighairtexan Posted February 4, 2011 #50 Share Posted February 4, 2011 When not on vacation I rarely drink at all. But during vacations I like to kick back w/ all sorts of drinks during the day, wine w/ dinner, nightcaps, martinis. Last trip on the Solstice I was a regular at the Molecular bar and I had the premium drink package. I also get free drinks in the casino which I take advantage of. But for a FREE CRUISE? I'd drink nothing but water if that were the requirement.
