tweak89 Posted February 9, 2011 #1 Share Posted February 9, 2011 Departing this Thursday on the Ecstasy and it looks like, well, crap weather all around. A nice chilly 45 degrees on departure, and it looks like rain forecast the rest of the week around the yucatan with a 95% chance rain and mild temps (low in the 60's and a high of 76) for Cozumel(how does this affect water temps for snorkeling??) on the day we will be docked there. So, if people can't wander about outside on the decks and enjoy the amenities there, do all the indoor activities get overrun? Is the pool or water slide water heated? This my first cruise and my wife's 3rd (first on Carnival). She had great weather on her other two cruises so we don't know what to expect. Although I big crowds don't really bother me, INDOOR big crowds can get annoying.
elcuchio24 Posted February 9, 2011 #2 Share Posted February 9, 2011 Yes, things can get a little crowded if everyone is inside. But don't go by the forecast. Allot of time when they call for 'rain', it's more like sun, ran for an hour, and sun again.
H82seaUgo Posted February 9, 2011 #3 Share Posted February 9, 2011 the forecast is usually the same all the time, but there are plenty of places to be outside and be under something.
sailor_jimc Posted February 9, 2011 #4 Share Posted February 9, 2011 And don't worry about rain for snorkeling... Unless there is lightning we go anyway. You are already wet and the water will be warmer than the air temperature. The only drawback is the visibility is lower (like your in a shadow most of the time.) As for walking around, bring or buy the cheap plastic rain ponchos and go anyway.... rain never has stopped us from enjoying a port. Helps if you have a waterproof camera.... tweak89 Posted February 9, 2011 Author #5 Share Posted February 9, 2011 Well, being a veteran of many trips to NASCAR races, we are always ready for any weather (Daytona weather is ALWAYS crazy in February). So we are prepared for any season. My wife is sensitive to cooler weather, so I may toss in a wetsuit for her so she'll be comfortable getting in and out of the water if the air is cool. My main concern was the atmosphere onboard when the weather keeps people "inside". But, I guess since cold doesn't bother me too much, more deck chairs for me!! :p

Although I big crowds don't really bother me, INDOOR big crowds can get annoying. The air temperature will not have much effect on the sea temperatures. An extended cold snap might lower the water temperature a degree or so, but the oceans are so large that their temperatures are more influenced by the season than a week or so of warm or cold weather. We were in Coz just before Christmas and the water was down to about 70 degrees. It is probably a little colder now but should start warming up around the first of March. going to see the world Posted February 9, 2011 #7 Share Posted February 9, 2011 I wouldn't worry about it until you get there :) I spent the whole week before our last trip freaking out because the weather had nothing but bad news...it was ALL wrong. :D
Martini Mom Posted February 9, 2011 #8 Share Posted February 9, 2011 Our first cruise together was a cold and rainy one AND a great time! It wasn't on a large ship with a ton of passengers, so it didn't feel crowded inside. It kept the bars, discos, etc. hopping! We just took a jackets and a mini umbrella and headed into port. :)

I get a huge kick watching people run out of the water when it begins to rain. I can usually be the only person left swimming, like it's just said, I'm already wet and a little rain isn't going to change that. Lightening, , high winds, water spouts, watch me run, but rain? Come on now!
salty dingo Posted February 9, 2011 #12 Share Posted February 9, 2011 There is always plenty of things to do. Eat. Drink. Play cards. You won't have to deal with crowds unless you want to go where the crowds are. There is always somewhere uncrowded to go. Lounges during the day can be wonderfully empty, while crowded at night. mama_2_boys Posted February 9, 2011 #13 Share Posted February 9, 2011 Play cards (lots of fun places around the ship. We love sitting in the window seats and watching the water), casino, movies in your room (I know staying in your cabin is no fun on a cruise, but we have little kids at home so it's a treat for us a couple of times during the cruise), join in activities such as Bingo or art auctions or tea time, eat/eat/eat, have a drink in one of the bars or heck try them all, at night you can hit up the shows/comedy club/disco...and so much more! We prefer to cruise when it's warm and sunny so we can lay on the lido deck all day, but there is plenty to do even if the weather isn't perfect. Enjoy your cruise and hope the weather is better than you are expecting!

Then Cocktails..Then Dinner..Then the Casino. Who knows you might get lucky!
Willbcruisin Posted February 10, 2011 #16 Share Posted February 10, 2011 I also get a giggle out of people who run when it rains. Your on a cruise and your going to get wet at some point:p One of our cruises it rained for four days. Did not stop our fun at all, only made us a bit lazier. I don't go by the forecast anymore either. It always changes at sea and on the Islands. Just don't stress over it. Relax and enjoy your cruise!
