I always book direct for everything.  However, after the WC debacle, I'd book air through cruise line in future, for longer cruises.  I remember arriving in LAX after a long haul flight to discover our flight to NY was cancelled.  The booking clerk said just join the queue with another airline to get another flight.  I said No, I have a flight booked direct with your airline and I'd like you to book four tickets for our family please.  Which she did!
