Tigers Cruiser Posted April 19, 2011 #26 Share Posted April 19, 2011 Just for fun, dreaming of our next cruise... What is your favorite People Watching activity? The one that comes to mind for us, is the very first afternoon. After our Lido Lunch, and before our cabin is ready... we love to watch the newbies arrive on the Lido Deck... in awe of everything.... Then>> watch them gladly accept a Drink of the Day from one of the Bar Servers! Then>> watch them look at each other when they realize those drinks are NOT FREE and the Waiter wants their newly acquired Sail and Sign Card! Welcome to Cruising! :) Catrin Beginning about cruise number 5 we get on board. Find a nice comfortable seat in the main lobby area ......grab a drink and watch the rest of the passengers arrive. Once we get a look at everyone we give that cruise a nickname. Depending on the time of year your mix of people will vary and let me tell you there are some real characters that come on board. One of my favourites was the Snoop Dog/ Redneck cruise. I'll let you fill in the blanks on that one. Gangstas or Good old boys. We've had some really funny cruise names and it helps us remember what a great time we have cruising. Smooth sailing everyone.
MissRabbit Posted April 19, 2011 #27 Share Posted April 19, 2011 Debarkation day when i'm on a B2B. Seeing all those sad faces hefting their luggage around. People lining up to complain about their bill. Taking a last look around before heading down the gangway. All the while, i'm wandering around, enjoying the emptying ship, knowing i've got a whole other week to go :) Then later, being first back on the ship and in the hot tub with an ice cold drink before the new pax come filing in, lugging their bags and looking lost. oh and the pier runners are classic. trailercruiser Posted April 19, 2011 #28 Share Posted April 19, 2011 I like watching the smokers get told that they are in a non-smoking area by Carnival employees and they can't smoke there, then the tamtrum the smokers throw ,swearing they will never cruise Carnival again and that smoking should be allowed everywhere. :p

Oh yeah, I will definitely plan a B2B next year (possibly August) - yes, the piers runners are hysterical, they should have a finish line ribbon setup for fun. alligirl78 Posted April 19, 2011 #30 Share Posted April 19, 2011 Ewww-- no thanks! Speedos should be against the law. Just sayin':p I love watching people and how they interact with one another. I could be having the WORST day, however, when I see an old couple walking by and holding hands, rays of sunlight just suddenly appear. AGREE! Also, watching the lil old folks breakin out the dance moves :) You know they've gotten to that wonderful spot in life where you have earned the right to not give a damn what you look like and just live in the moment! There was a great group on the promenade outside of the casino on the Liberty one night that just had me rolling. One lady (had to have been over 80) had a long string of beads that she was just a-swinging over her head to Bob Seger's "Old Time Rock n Roll :D:cool: Adorable. Cruise-Crazy Posted April 19, 2011 #32 Share Posted April 19, 2011 I usually wake up early--even when I go to bed late--and I like to go to the Lido deck, get a cup of coffee and walk around outside. I often find people in deep though and contemplation and/or staff doing their work. That's the one part of a cruise that I find 100% genuine. I went up on deck early one morning to take some sunrise pictures... went up to the bow and walked up on a couple in a lounge chair.... they were, er.... NOT expecting anyone...

overeasy Posted April 19, 2011 #34 Share Posted April 19, 2011 Mine is watching the pier runners in Cozumel. Yeah! Except when they cheat and hire a pedicab for the dash down the pier. We still applauded their last-minute return though.
frito58 Posted April 19, 2011 #35 Share Posted April 19, 2011 Our last cruise was a short 4 day on the Navigator and these 4 girls made the purchase of our balcony well worth the price , my wife and never laughed so hard , it was Cozumel they first went up the wrong pier and then spent no less than 5-10 minutes digging through thier stuff to find their ship cards and then once pass security thats when the fun started the poor securtiy guy , well i grew up on a farm and it looked like a person trying to herd 4 chickens in the the hen house they staggered all over the dock almost fell in twice and then once he finally got them to the ship yes you guessed it , they lost ther ship cards again , people gave the guard a loud round of applause for getting them to the ship. In 11 cruises I have seen runners but never anyone that drunk and this was a 5:30 boarding time.:eek:

papillon cruiser Posted April 19, 2011 #37 Share Posted April 19, 2011 I think I have seen these people on the Dream in the hot tub on serenity deck. Also like the customer service complainers. And they always want a free cruise as compensation. HA HA HA
workin4theweekend Posted April 19, 2011 #38 Share Posted April 19, 2011 We love to people watch, that's one of the best parts. Makes time go by faster in the airports too. One of my fav's is to watch the workers on the dock loading and servicing the ships and all of the staff that are constantly painting and polishing and what have you. Those guys have it down to a fine art. You can tell that most of them really take pride in their ship. I hear from time to time about a snafu like some luggage dropped in the sea:eek:, but have yet to witness this!

seashell36 Posted April 19, 2011 #44 Share Posted April 19, 2011 DH & I love to people watch too. We do love the pier runners, pedicab people, and the drunks that try to board the wrong ship. What we witnessed our first time in Cozumel was the best of all - with maybe 15 minutes left to be back onboard we see a group of people trying to carry one of the buddies down the pier. This didn't work so they grabbed a pedicab - then when they got to the ship it took four people to get this young woman out of the back and headed in the right direction. All the time she was waving two of the yard o' drinks. - Another favorite (one that doesn't happen anymore) was laying out on the funnel deck and watching the men come up to have a look at the scenery.

Winterstale Posted April 19, 2011 #46 Share Posted April 19, 2011 We like watching what people PILE on their plates...like they're not going to see food again for an hour....although somewhat revolting, it can provide amusement.
AandBmom Posted April 19, 2011 #47 Share Posted April 19, 2011 On our last cruise, on the Sensation DH and I enjoyed trying to find the most interesting tattoo. Let me tell you there were some insane ones. Our favorite was the guy covered head to toe in tattooed feathers. My husband just said, "***** is he a bird?". Nothing against tattoos, but some of the ones we've seen on the more budget cruises looked like home-made tattoos or prison tattoos.
T. Advisor King Posted April 20, 2011 #48 Share Posted April 20, 2011 Ewww-- no thanks! Speedos should be against the law. Just sayin':p .... As I'm sure you can appreciate, that's not what I had in mind when I mentioned people watching near the pool in hot weather. Our last cruise was actually out of Greece and the sunbathing standards there are significantly ... uh ... different than they are for cruises out of North America. First you look. Then you try to look without looking like you're looking. Then you try not to look. But then you realize that you're trying to look like you're not looking. And it cycles through these states. But I never complain about the scenery in Europe!

BallFour4 Posted April 20, 2011 #50 Share Posted April 20, 2011 Drunk Dash is always worth the price of a balcony!:D You got our number 1... so let me add to in Conquest, cabin 1003, port side on the balcony watching the drunks. Guy did a cannonball last summer off the pier. 2.) Day one, lido deck, aboard the Ecstasy at a table near the pool and buffet exit. People loading up on food and alcohol like it might not be available the rest of the cruise. 3.) Aboard the Ecstasy, one level above the dining room entrance, on the rail and watching the "blue cards" push and shove before the doors open. Hello... you have a reserved table. 4.) Captains cocktail party... any ship. Watching people chase down the servers like they have a potion that cures cancer. 5.) Grand Cayman, hot sun. People that stand in line and bake. Why not get a cold drink and wait until the line goes down? I do. 6.) Fun stuff? Watching the faces of newbies as they step in the atrium for the first time. I am sure I get the same face, but I never take it for granted. We had to reschedule a cruise aboard the Conquest this past summer due to a career change (see 1900 getting laid off from my company) and I was able to get some help as this was our 11th on Carnival and we sailed the day after Christmas. Every day was special, even the pouring down rain day we had coming back. See you at sea. .
