Whittier to Anchorage options

The Diamond docks in Whittier at 12:30 am and our flight leaves Anchorage at 3:30pm that afternoon. We are using the Princess transfer to port. What can we expect time wise? Will there be time for any looking around in Anchorage or can we expect to sit around the airport until flight time. We are scheduled to arrive back in Houston at 9:00 the next morning followed by a two hour drive home so it would be nice to stretch our legs before flying. Also what time can we expect to be required to disembark the ship?

When we used the transfer last May from Whittier to Anchorage, the bus we were on went to a downtown convention center and let us off. There were buses that went straight to the airport, but really, most of us had late afternoon, evening, and nighttime departures. Inside the convention center, you were able to check your luggage in for free to a secure room, and then you were free to leave and explore the downtown area. Lots of shopping, lunch spots (including the mall food court), etc. Princess buses would come by the convention center regularly and pick up travelers and take them to the airport. All included in the transfer cost. Disembarking is generally the normal time of 7:30 or 8 am.

Don't have any worries taking the Princess transfer. They have it down pat.

Yes you would be taken to the downtown Egan Center. Shuttle buses run from there to the airport and there is luggage storage. But, you may want to consider one of the excellent independent tours available right from Whittier, that include stops along the Arm and drop off at the airport.

Otherwise, know what is going on in Anchorage and have plans in advance, to make the most of your time. http://www.anchorage.net

I suggest you leave on a 1pm shuttle bus, as you need a 2 hour window at Anchorage airport and it's a 20 minute shuttle from downtown.
