Razor_Poke Posted April 23, 2011 #1 Share Posted April 23, 2011 We always make it a point to catch a sunset on a cruise but is there anything special about a sunrise from a boat? I'm not much of an early riser, but I'll do it once if it's worth it.
8togo Posted April 23, 2011 #2 Share Posted April 23, 2011 I'm normally a morning person, but I drank a LOT on my cruise and missed the sunrises. I actually really regret this. Not the drinks part, just the missing sunrise.
cruisinthemed Posted April 23, 2011 #3 Share Posted April 23, 2011 I love to sit on my balcony & have a cup of coffee. We book the side of the cabin, so I get more surises, than sunsets. We are usually get ready for dinner or at dinner when the sun sets. It is a very peaceful time of day, when most are sleeping.
dustyroad Posted April 23, 2011 #4 Share Posted April 23, 2011 (edited). what effect you get on the ship seeing the event can still be the same on a boat. why would there be any difference? Edited April 23, 2011 by dustyroad
MissRabbit Posted April 23, 2011 #5 Share Posted April 23, 2011 previous cruises, we seemed to miss the sunrises and sunsets. But this last one, we were up every morning between 5-5:30am (i'm still baffled as to why lolol) and enjoyed the sunrise almost every morning. there truly is nothing like it. it's like a breath of fresh air, the birth of a new day, the song from the silence of night. here are a few pics from the last cruise. the first 2 are in Belize. the last was while we were passing by Cuba. *Mach* Posted April 23, 2011 #7 Share Posted April 23, 2011 Sunrise can be equally as beautiful as sunset... Sunrise over Progreso, Mexico... The Carnival Conquest arrives at Galveston at sunrise... :)

I always wake up my DH and we grab coffee and go watch the sunrise....it is nice listening to the waves and watching the sun rise. there are very few people out at this time of the morning....nice and quiet...there is...something special about it :) You won't get "quiet" at sunset  Edited April 23, 2011 by BeeBeeCee
H82seaUgo Posted April 23, 2011 #9 Share Posted April 23, 2011 as an early riser, i catch most sunrises. something very peaceful about them...probably the quiet as most are still sleeping. always have the camera with me, as some extreme colors sometime appear. however, there's something depressing about the last morning's sunrise. they never seem to be pretty. teachprek Posted April 23, 2011 #10 Share Posted April 23, 2011 I booked a balcony room so I can see the sunrise while the sleeping young adults get rid of late night thrills! Sitting on the spa deck was pretty one morning! Mornings, another sample of God's gift to many!

dst Posted April 23, 2011 #12 Share Posted April 23, 2011 I am an early riser, even on vacation......the sunrise is well worth getting up for. The ship is so quiet and the sunrise is beautiful - I love sitting up near the pool, having my coffee, catching the sunrise and watching the ship come to life - We enjoy the sunset from our balcony :)
deadeye Posted April 23, 2011 #13 Share Posted April 23, 2011 (edited) I normally wake up early, but the wife doesn't. I especially wake up if the ship is docking early morning for a Port of Call. The changes in the sounds/motion I guess. Off St Maarten I was glad I woke up. The sunrise was beautiful. Here are a couple of pics. 2011_02010080 by Cruznmore, on Flickr[/img] Edited April 23, 2011 by deadeye
dillonsmimi Posted April 23, 2011 #14 Share Posted April 23, 2011 Mach... I am assuming this pic of Conquest is taken from the Galveston port side of her with the sun rising behind her (east). I notice a shrimper, tug and tanker on the right of photo. What is that on the left side of photo. Looks like a battleship. We have no naval base and the Coast Guard doesn't have anything that size (that we the American people are aware of, lol) Just curious as to the date this amazing photo was taken. Thanks for sharing, we are sunrise people, too. mimi
michiganirish Posted April 23, 2011 #15 Share Posted April 23, 2011 it's easy - if we get to see the sunrise at all in michigan it is usually on I-75 on my way to work - i much rather see it over the Carribean from the comfort of our balcony

elcuchio24 Posted April 23, 2011 #17 Share Posted April 23, 2011 Yes, the sun that rises at sea start blue, then eventually changes color. No, no real difference except watching the sun rise over the water instead of over the land. We are early risers and often are up to watch the sun rise. In Maine, it come up ongodly early most of the time, so it's nice to watch it rise a little later on the ship.

I have seen both sunrises and sunsets at sea and from shore and elsewhere (absolutely gorgeous in the mountains), but I am totally clueless as to what this is.
