We both saw them walk thru the Lido buffet serving area with the little bugger on a leash walking ahead of them & another time we saw the cute little dog in a baby stroller being pushed around on deck 5, probably being taken to the casino for good luck.

 

It does seem odd that a service dog would be rolled around in a stroller....:confused:

The wife and I were on Carnival Destiny Nov. 2010 and encountered our first (Service?) dog at the table in the main dining room. It was a very small dog in a dog carrier. The lady was letting the dog drink out of the glass from the table and feeding it from the plate on the table. We watched this for 2 night and moved to the other side of the dining room.

 

Before you start to bash me , I am just reporting what we encountered. We have a cat that live inside with us but I would never let it eat off the table.

I thought that service dogs weren't supposed to be babied and put in strollers and such. We have some in training that come into church and we aren't supposed to go and pet them.

Your kidding, from the table and they didn't say anything. I think that may be breaking some health rules!

 

I have a little dog , the first ever to live in my home, I really love this little girl, but I have rules, she does not sleep in my bed and she does not go in my kitchen. I am not sure she knows what human food is because she does not come to the table when we are eating. I would never think of taking her into a location and putting her up to a table. The service dogs I have seen in a resturant always lay on the floor by the owner. I know we need service dogs, but not eating off the table and out of our dishes.

As far as I was able to see, I never saw anyone from the wait staff try to stop her. I should have complained but I thought it would be better to just ask to be reseated on the opposite side than start a ruckus.

From a cruiser that brought their service dog

 

Carnival uses a 4x4 wooden box filled with those damn paper pellets. Before the muster drill and when I should have been exploring the ship or having lunch; I was busy trying to get them to move her box and put something else in place of the pellets.

 

The box was initially placed on the deck where they have a golf simulator (so while pople were playing golf, Brenda was supposed to go potty?) It was also located on a deck where you had to climb two sets of stairs, (what were they thinking?)

 

The hotel manager had a crew member leave the ship with a bucket and a shovel.....he literally dug up dirt, under a tree, across the street from the dock (this was in San Diego!) Unblieveable, but true!!!!! Once the dirt was mixed with the pellets Brenda easily relieved herself!

 

The box was moved to deck 10, where passengers smoked (I was always retrieveing cigarette butts out of the dirt!) It was better than where it was and I met with the hotel manager, to explain my displeasure of his being so ill prepared for a service dog and was offered a 15% discount on a future cruise!

I don't care how well behaved the animal is, some people are extremely allergic to animals, if it's a long haired breed, their hair gets into places that can't be reached by a vacuum and end up in someone's nose who will develop a severe allergic reaction. There is no defending an animal in your stateroom prior to your cruise, joke all you want, the cruiseline needs to establish a procedure to inform passengers when a service animal has inhabited the stateroom prior to your stay, period. A severe allergy can kill someone.

 

So can being without a trained service animal.

 

This happens at HOTELS too.....do you ask this same quick prior to checking in to a hotel? Alll public places MUST allow service animals it's the ADA law!

If I stay at a land based hotel, I most certainly ask if the hotel accepts service animals and request a room that has not been occupied by an animal. Also, if it is a pet friendly hotel, I do not book a room there.

No bashing at all.... No repituable service dog organization would allow this type of behavior. IMO the dog, and person, should have been removed at the next port.

If you don't want dogs anywhere around your food, you better never go to Europe. Dogs are allowed in all of the restaurants as well as stores and the train and street cars. Personally, they have more manners than a lot of the humans!

You are correct on both counts.

 

It is not correct to pet a working service dog. If the dog is not working, you should first ask the handler if the dog can be pet.

I think you miss the point ALL hotels, businesses period MUST allow service animals it is the law....it falls under American with Disbailities Act - NO service animals are allowed to be turned away. No hotel has the ability to recall what rooms may have had an animal in a specific room they do not keep that sort of record.

True, but how many little dogs being pushed around in carts or carried in purses are true service dogs under the recent DOJ clarification of the ADA regulations? Those dogs can and should be turned away.

 

Decent hotels keep records, and if someone is very concerned they can ask to have their room deep cleaned prior to their arrival.

I certainly can not speak directly to the little dogs in strollers and agree it is odd. But from what I understand people bringing dogs on board have to have certain paper work and certifications for the dog.

 

"Little" dogs are being used as service dogs for alot of issues where a large dog may not be suitable to the client. Small dogs are used a seizures dogs as well as for people that are diabetic.

My former boss has a Papillon who is a certified service dog. My boss has epilepsy and the dog is trained to warn him and his wife that he's about to have a seizure. The dog has never been wrong. He doesn't need to be huge to provide a valuable (and possibly life-saving) service.

Unfortunately its abused many times. You can get paperwork to say it is as easily as it is for folks to get pills from a pill farm.

 

 

I am going to bring my Rottie on my next cruise. I sleep better when she is at my feet. Thats service. Insomnia can be a disability.

 

She would LOVE the Lido deck.
