Gem Balcony Suite vs Mini Suite Balcony

I'm booking a balcony suite on the Gem for an upcoming cruise.....but I'm playing with the idea of possibly getting a mini suite balcony room instead. Obviously it is a bit larger in size, but is it much to really make a difference? Is the mini suite so much better than just the balcony suite or does it really just start to matter once you get up into the penthouse and owner suites? Hmmmm....the penthouse suite is looking sweet! There are just the 2 of us.

For myself I prefer the mini-suite. No it doesn't come with bells and whistles. But it is larger than a balcony cabin, has a larger couch, has a curtain to divide the sitting area from the sleeping area, and has a tub in the bathroom. I would always choose a mini-suite over a standard balcony, but DH and I tend to spend a fair amount of time in our cabin, vegging out, reading etc. so the extra space is important to us.

Of course the real answer to your question is we've been spoiled but the suite life and book at least penthouses whenever we can! :D

We normally just have a standard balcony room. However, on the recent 14 day Panama Canal cruise, we upped to the mini suite because of the length of the cruise...and glad we did for that cruise. However, for just two persons a mini isn't a necessity. As mentioned, it does have a full size couch (still hard as a rock though), more storage space, drawers, etc, more square footage, and the sliding curtain that blocks off the bed. Also on the Pearl, the mini's balcony was much deeper than the standard balcony rooms' balconies. So your call...and how much more money....which could be spent on other things. The Sun, by the way, balcony rooms are bigger than the other ships, about half way between normal and a mini.
