CCL Getting Rid of the cigar bars is going to force people to break the rules.

It is inconceivable to me that someone would object to an enclosed ventilated room that would be used by cigar smokers. I smoke cigars to socialize and relax two of the reasons I go on vacation to begin with. If you don't want to smell smoke you don't go in the cigar bar. If you want to smoke a cigar you go to the cigar bar. Simple. I am very aware of others that do not want to smell smoke and do not smoke outside of the cigar bar not even on my balcony. This decision to eliminate cigar bars is forcing me to rethink that.

To paraphrase the olde 'Barretta' show:

Don't do the crime if you can't do the time!

I truly hate smoking, but I believe a ventilated, enclosed place for smokers is acceptable Why not, it's a legal activity. They should actually be thankful it was there, where at least you were less likely to be problematic elsewhere.

I have seen the cigar bars in some crazy places on ships - the Freedom it was a bar through which you had to pass to access the internet cafe. On a RCL ship (forgot which one) it was in the library, during hours in which the library was officially closed (huh? yeh, it was) and on another it was a bar directly above the MDR and a central staircase joined the two.

There are folks who enjoy being offended by one thing or another, so I guess they will now have to look for something else.

What rules would you be breaking?

Smoking cigars in parts of the ship where it is no longer allowed. I never wanted to put up with people being put out with my cigars and that is why I appreciated the cigar bars. Because of fewer options most folks will be less concerned about where they light up or the impact on others because they have fewer options.

*sigh* Yet another smoking thread.

OP: I do agree with you that it is a crying shame to get rid of the cigar bar as that is always a relaxing time on my cruise: sit down, relax, smoke a cigar and have a nice glass of wine. Thankfully I can still do this on Cunard!

I don't smoke (anymore) and never smoked cigars but.....I do believe it is a mistake to take away the cigar bars. I will wager that in a few years they will work their way back into the ships!

If the cigar bars were in places where non-cigar smoking folks didn't have to venture in to get to someplace else (like the Internet Cafe), i would not be opposed to keeping them on the ship. I can't see how anyone would. Like others said above, just don't go there as it's specific purpose is for smoking cigars.

But the fact is, the way the designed them, many people do have to go there and be bothered by it to get to where they're going. I think that's the only reason Carnival chose to shut down the cigar bars.

I'd much rather the cigars be in one place i can avoid, than be out in the open deck where i might not be able to avoid it.

My DH enjoys a cigar when we are cruising but he's always gone to the cigar bars to enjoy it since he doesn't want to subject others to the cigar smoke. Now that this option isn't available for him, it looks like he just might have to smoke it on the balcony! If people complain about cigarette smoke from the balconies, I can just imagine what will happen when all the cigar smokers have to go out there! :D

I'm not a smoker, but I'm also not bothered by smoke - don't have a pony in this race. DH does enjoy an occasional cigar, though, and we've always enjoyed an evening in the cigar bar. I think Carnival hit the right balance on this one. The cigar bars on Triumph and Conquest-class ships are great, but they're terribly underused. When we sailed on Glory two years ago, there was a great crowd in the (non-cigar) Ivory Club for a classic rock band. Really, they don't need that amount of space for cigars. At the same time, though, I'm glad they're moving cigars out of the sports bar - DH really doesn't care for that space for his cigars at all.

This nonsmoker thinks a dedicated ventilated room would be fine.

However, Carnival (to date) has not built that......

when they do....I am all for it...and I don't even smoke!

I am very confused about all of this. Why would they get rid of smoking in the cigar bar but keep it in the discos and clubs and other lounges??? As a non-smoker, I would MUCH prefer they keep the smokers to the Cigar bar and ban it everywhere else inside the ship. Seems very logical to me. Who wants to dance and drink in a cloud of smoke??? Oh well, I think that within just a couple of years, if not less, smoking will be banned completely indoors and on balconies.

The existing cigar bars were always an underutilized, horrific waste of a precious commodity - space.

The new, improved, right-sized cigar bars are replacing them.

The new, improved and right-sized cigar bars will be smoke free!

Yes, the current ones might be underutised but I would not consider them a waste of space. I always encountered fellow cruisers there and enjoyed the atmosphere.

Let me say this, I hate cigarette/cigar smoke. It has always bothered me and as a kid I forced my Dad to quit because it bothered me so much. I never went to bars in my 20's because smoke would give me a sure headache.

That being said, what's the point of a cigar lounge/bar that doesn't allow people to smoke? I have never personally been into such a lounge because I know what I'd be setting myself up for. But there should still be an area that allows for this until it is banned by the government (which I honestly hope isn't too far off).

I'd like to know where and when this poll was taken on this change with smoking and cigar bar? I have only crusied with carnvial and we never got a poll to take part with on this .

I am very mad i feel smokers do have rights and the non smokers can just stay in there little zone just as smokers have. I think the ones who are rude are the non smokers because the smokers is always trying to not be rude such as being next to someone who does not smoke. at this point if this gets worse in these rules we will move on to a different cruise line next will be the balcony are non smoking and all inside the ship and really this is BS they could make everyone happy but the bottom line is the non smokers are jerks and bully people ... sick of it

they stay focused on smokers but let the drugie sell drugs and the drunk drivers kill people thats worse then a smoker. Carnival just screwed up i think

What rights do you have that you feel are being violated? For years non-smokers have had to put up with second hand some and even now the change isn't that significant....

I am a bit confused. I know they are removing the cigar bars, and I belive I read the only place to smoke a cigar is on your balcony or other outdoor areas. I think it's wrong to have cigarette smoking still allowed inside the casino and some clubs and no inside area for cigar smoking. I have never smoked a cigarette in my life. But I do enjoy a nice cigar every now and then with a glass of wine. What better place that a cigar bar? Please correct me if I am wrong. But as I said it's not fair they give cigarette smokers some inside areas but not cigar smokers.

Or you could go up top and smoke with the rest...

What is the problem?

Sometimes at night it gets very windy & cold outside.

I have long hair and do not want to smoke a cigar outside while my hair is blowing in my face. Not a very relaxing time. Also what about when it's raining?
