Do any Disney ships have a casino?

But if the day ever comes when Florida allows casino gambling, you can bet every Disney ship will have a casino. I wouldn't be surprised if Disney didn't already have all the equipment and plans to where they would go.

Florida has casino gambling.

Back to the OP Question,

We have established that DCL ships do not have a Casino, so the question is is this a deal breaker?

There is so so much to do on a Disney ship, the best cruise entertainment, some of the best cruise food, Palo, Remy, Films, Castaway Cay, it would be a shame not to try it once, just because there isn't a Casino and one person would want it.

Personally I would find it hard to imagine anyone not finding something, the liked on the ship.

I would be up front no Casino, (bingo isn't anything close), and go for a different experience and promise a Casino next time ,if they do not enjoy it.

(Bet they do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

fyi, there are many fervid fans of disney who are strict christian fundamentalists (of which i am NOT one) and any form of gambling/drinking is taboo. Not sure if that would exclude DCL..

in PA bingo for profit is licensed by the state it is a game of chance = gambling. Same as being pregnant, it's all or nothing:p

re comment as to lack of casino on DCL ships detering the party crowd...the higher cost likely accomplishes that (works for me) and the fear of too many kids underfoot.

I will state, that having moonlighted as a bartender for many years, I'm a pretty good judge of who can & cannot hold their liquor. The sloppiest drunks i've seen are aboard DCL ships. I chalk it up to it being 'amatuer hour' & 1st time cruisers who might not be aware that booze doesn't always mix well w/sea sick patches & hot tropical sun.

To my knowledge they don't force anyone to buy their product, and I hope that their pockets stay fat so that they can continue to provide their product.

I agree Disney can take the extra money from me that I would have gambled on another ship. Usually close to $1000  I consider it a donation and love doing it! My next donation will be in December. I do love the free soda included in the cruis price as I don't drink :D

The dream is licenced and owned in the Bahamas I'm not sure about the other ships

The Disney ships are owned by a UK company (called something like Magical Vacations Ltd or such like), this is beneficial for Lloyds registration. The major shareholder in this company is Disney Vacations (or such like). The ship's are flagged by the Bahamas due to their lax laws and low fees.

In terms of who owns the ships - that is something Disney is quite tight-lipped about. I would imagine that they will be fully guaranteed by a number of Disney affiliates, likely to be based off shore somewhere.

In terms of why there is no casino - it is a gimmick. It is a way to sell cruises - "look how wholesome we are... we don't even have a casino", note the sarcasm. DCL did do some market research a fey years back when planning the new ships regarding casinos and gambling. It was deemed important not to have casinos onboard.

I like a trip to a casino, however, I am no big gambler. I think that other lines do rely on casino games as both an earner and entertainment. DCL has good entertainment for most of the day - so much so that I believe that your father would not miss the casino.

That's funny...where are the casinos? And how come you never see them advertised on TV or in magazines?

I've been to a Hard Rock Casino in Florida... it was terrible. They make you pay for drinks even when you are gambling.

It was in Tampa FYI and there is another one in Hollywood, FL

Frankly, I am glad. I'm not opposed to responsible adults gambling for entertainment purposes, but there are a lot of people who do NOT responsibly gamble, and there is an ambiance created by the presence of slot machine zombies that I'd rather not have present on a Disney ship.

After Vegas I was shocked when the waitress asked me for $8 for my drink...

I like the fact that there are NO casinos on DCL. They can be smoky and dark.

I don't like crossing thru them. And have to, because that is often the wheelchair-accessible route [without going up several decks on the elevator, and folks can be pushy about getting on elevators].

You see them advertised all the time when you live here.

Conversely, how come I never see the Atlantic City casinos advertised in Florida on TV or in magazines? I'll bet many Floridians have no idea there are casinos outside of Florida, Vegas, and maybe Biloxi.

When I lived in NJ, I never saw the New York State casinos advertised.

Just because you don't see them advertised, it doesn't mean they aren't there.

There are over 50 places to legally gamble (poker, card rooms, slots, etc.) in Florida, including the Seminole facilities, dog tracks, jai lai frontons, and more.

And just an FYI...

Who do you suppose is the largest opponent of several proposals over the past few years to greatly expand casino gambling in Florida ?

Here's a hint... it rhymes with "Wisney".

Personally, the absence of casinos is the #1 reason why we have chosen DCL for six cruises, with a seventh already booked. Just our personal preference. I've got nothing against casinos, they're just not my cup of tea.

The Disney Magic was supposed to have a casino when the naval architects first presented their designs to Disney. Eisner's team quickly deleted it from the plans. That space turned into the Improv club and is now Diversions. The slot machine zombies would have been tucked away in a corner of Beat St.

I have heard about those wild party crowds on Holland America and Princess ships.Boy does it get wild on those ships with the casinos.

Bill

exactly!!

It does seem a bit hypocritical of Disney not to have a casino in order to keep their ships “family oriented,” yet they have an abundance of bars. I guess it is ok for kids to see people drinking, but not people gambling.

i find drinking a whole lot more offensive than the little shipboard casinos..

i've rarely seen people as fall down drunk as i did on the two disney cruises we were on...and worse, many of them were holding the child club buzzers in their hands as they were falling all over themselves....pretty horrifying to think they were on their way to pick up children in that condition..

In six cruises, including two 7-nighters (28 nights total), aboard various DCL ships we've never seen anyone sloppy, falling-down drunk. Somewhat buzzed, yes... but obnoxiously embarassingly drunk, never.

the worst incident involved two couples who were as drunk as a person can be without going comatose...

they were very loud and very obnoxious drunks who heckled incoherently (but very loudly) throughout the dueling pianos show....

it was embarrassing, but actually became quite frightening as they became louder and more belligerent....

and the entire time, their child club beepers kept going off....

one wonders if they ever made it to the child club to pick up their kids (hopefully not, as in their condition, their children would have been in danger)..

I had to sit in front of those same types with their kids on an airplane. They are everywhere. They were obnoxious to the flight attendant (who was homosexual and they knew it), they were loud and the attendants stopped giving them alcohol. I'm pretty sure they were headed onto a Cruise afterwards (from overhearing). The kids were really embarrassed.

Having said that, never seen someone that drunk on a Disney Cruise. I also didn't see anyone overly drunk on the MSC Cruise we just sailed on and the Casino was almost always empty.

Note this article in the Financial Times about a Malaysian Casino company wanting to move into Miami. One of the backers of the anti-casino group is... oh, I'll just let you be surprised:

I'm not sure if Casino's have much to do with that really. We were on the MSC Poesia that had a huge casino and it was empty most of the time. People were definitely drinking and having fun, just not all gambling.

I think it's the stigma attached to the line that makes the "partiers" go to those ships.
