kinsetta Posted July 2, 2011 #1 Share Posted July 2, 2011 We embark on the Zuiderdam on July 9. During two of our port calls, some of our 10-person party will not return from shore excursions until after our early/fixed dining time. (The age range in our group is 18 months to 90 years, so early was the obvious choice!) even though my husband and I always eat later -- for precisely this reason. At any rate, are there any options besides the Lido for these late returners? Could they take their chances on open seating? What alternative restaurants are there and what is the upcharge? Thanks in advance.
RuthC Posted July 2, 2011 #2 Share Posted July 2, 2011 They could try for later reservations in Canaletto or the Pinnacle. Canaletto might be a better choice, if they like Italian food, as the dress code is more casual and they wouldn't have to worry about cleaning up and changing. Or, they could call room service and order from the room service menu. They could also try to order room service from the dining room menu, but the opportunity to do that does cut off at some point. Generally, if you're on fixed seating you can't opt for open seating on a one-shot deal.
Rare kazu Posted July 2, 2011 #3 Share Posted July 2, 2011 What alternative restaurants are there and what is the upcharge? Thanks in advance. There is no charge to eat in the Canaletto or for room service. :D If you are back in time you can order off the dining room menu for room service or, you can order the regular room service menu. Krazy Kruizers Posted July 2, 2011 #7 Share Posted July 2, 2011 We have eaten in the Canaletto -- it was great -- but this was on our recent Amsterdam cruise. It can vary by ship and cruise adte.
kansasdj Posted July 2, 2011 #8 Share Posted July 2, 2011 We were on the Zuiderdam in late May. On the Juneau port day our ship excursion did not return until 9:45, to our dismay the Lido and the Canelleto was closed for the preparation of the late night snack. There were many disgruntled and hungry passengers who were not in the mood for a room service sandwich and had to wait for something to eat. We were very disappointed. Our other late day was in Skagway but we planned our own excursion into the Yukon and returned within the dining hour times for both the MDR and Lido and Canelleto. We were very surprised that the ship (being aware of the late return of their excursions) were not prepared to feed PAX. We had always cruised on Princess before and had never had this happen. Have a great time! The scenery is MAGNIFICENT!

Have a great time! The scenery is MAGNIFICENT! I have to confess I am surprised at this. when we did the Baltics, our shore excursions got us back too late for either lunch or dinner. Both times, there was a nice set up for us on the aft lido. Tremendous and geared to the areas we had been to. We really enjoyed it. But I will take a HAL club anytime on room service;)
