Ellie27 Posted July 3, 2011 #1 Share Posted July 3, 2011 Our first cruise is In November on magic. :)! I'm a little concerned about the credit card when we "check in" (correct terminology??) we have one credit card with a small limit. I had planned on using our debit card but am nervous about the daily spending limit? Would buying funship dollars prior to cruise be our best option? Also- can we use the funship dollars in the casino? Thanks
firefly333 Posted July 3, 2011 #2 Share Posted July 3, 2011 Any OBC can be used for anything. Iv used both credit and debit cards and never had a problem, but then I never come close to my limit. Once you are on your first cruise you can buy a FCC to give yourself OBC toward your next cruise and defray the onboard spending. If you have a savings, you can buy 100 shares of stock and also get OBC.
ItsAllAboutTheSass Posted July 3, 2011 #3 Share Posted July 3, 2011 you can order funship dollars online or over the phone prior to your cruise. You can use your Sing and Sail card in the slots.

Ellie27 Posted July 3, 2011 Author #6 Share Posted July 3, 2011 Thanks for the replies. The small print for the FS dollars says not for use in casino or for gratuities? If this is true- I guess we can use our debit card for casino and OBC for drinks and shopping? (the daily limit on my card would prob be a good thing when slots are involved ;) ) If we do not use all of our OBC (from funship dollars), will it be refunded? AdrenalineRush Posted July 3, 2011 #7 Share Posted July 3, 2011 You can also use cash to back your S&S card.

Fishon28 Posted July 4, 2011 #11 Share Posted July 4, 2011 We used cash for the first time and will probably use cash from now on. I used credit card at all ports that took credit though. With those kiosks on board now, it's easier than ever to just put more cash on you're account.
kyrisong1 Posted July 4, 2011 #12 Share Posted July 4, 2011 Hi there Ellie, prepare to be addicted to cruising :-) We pay our gratuities before the cruise, we earmark our money for the tours we are going to do and set it aside in cash and we take cash for me to shop with off the ship. I do not use my debit card for the S&S account because I have a fear of locking up my bank account, we use a credit card that we only use for cruises, and pay it off between. I'm addicted to buying souveniers for people I work with and family so I tend to spend more than I should in the gift shops. But you can limit yourself and you can also check your amount spent daily on your screen in your room. That way you can make sure to watch yourself. You can spend more than you expected just on little things. Have an awesome cruise!!! Carole
Ellie27 Posted July 4, 2011 Author #13 Share Posted July 4, 2011 Thanks Carole! So we can add money daily? If we decide to do cash only- how much do we have to add to start off with?
Alwaysundecided Posted July 4, 2011 #14 Share Posted July 4, 2011 If you use your debit card and not a credit card, make sure you have enough in your bank account to cover everything that you charge. It comes out as you charge, not as a lump sum at the end.
kyrisong1 Posted July 4, 2011 #15 Share Posted July 4, 2011 Hey Ellie, I've never done the cash in my S&S account, we usually just use a credit card and watch how much we spend, there will be a safe in your room for your cash and jewerly and stuff (remember to bring a card to scan it with that is not a credit card and don't ever use your S&S card to lock the safe, we use a grocery rewards card, but you can also use depleted gift cards, anything with a scanning strip thingy :-) I am pretty sure they would allow you to add as much as you wish, and I can't imagine they wouldn't allow you to add more as you go. We just prefer the convience of a credit card. I don't think they have a number you "have" to start out at, but the tips will be added right away unless you pay them up front, that is 10.00 per person a day (these can be removed, but the staff do work hard for you) Hope this helps and I'm sure someone that does use cash for the S&S will chime in soon. Happy 4th of July!!! Carole

SHAZA0208 Posted July 4, 2011 #17 Share Posted July 4, 2011 Just need to know is that $200 per person? Thanks.
lulu13 Posted July 4, 2011 #18 Share Posted July 4, 2011 Yes, that is the standard requested deposit for cash. They recommend $200 per person. Of course, each person pays $10 per day in tips which comes out of this $200, so keep that in mind when allotting your spending money. I usually use a cash deposit, and if I get close to spending the total amount I have deposited, I usually go to the Courtesy desk and deposit a little more if I think I will need it. They will refund anything remaining by having a check at your cabin the morning of departure.
Ellie27 Posted July 4, 2011 Author #19 Share Posted July 4, 2011 I contacted carnival and they said they we could use fun ship dollars in the casino. But- they said that the dollars were not refundable... So I will not be using those! I guess we will go with cash, unless our bank will up the daily spending limit. I know this is prob a dumb question- is it ok to leave money in the safe?

DW and I use cash in the ports and leave what we aren't using the safe. Never been a problem so far. DW also puts her jewerly and meds in there when we are out of the room.
