I see there is an excursion through carnival that you can jet ski but from what I have read you have to follow the guide and cant go on your own.

 

I know its a private island but are there other ways to rent jet skis?

Not on the private island. At other ports, almost every beach will have jetskis and waverunners avail. for rent, and you CAN "do your own thing" there! Just wait and do it at a different port! You don't need an excursion to go to a beach!

It is a tour and you have to follow the guide...it is actually pretty good. If you make sure you are the first ski behind the guide you will be going pretty fast most of the time as you don't have the ones in front of you putting along and not going anywhere...we have done it 2 times and hubby make take our daughter in October...
