abqmommyof4 Posted July 20, 2011 #51 Share Posted July 20, 2011 i keep my S&S card in a holder on a lanyard, i will sometimes carry a small tote style bag to hold the kindle, sunblock, daily schedule... for dinner (formal) I'll carry my bull dog purse ( its a judith leiber purse that belonged to my mom who loved bull dogs and cruising, its really the only time it comes out) and boy have I gotten remarks about it, ( security really notices it. -large metal object in carryon always prompts questions...) StillPooh Posted July 20, 2011 #52 Share Posted July 20, 2011 I have never understood the need to have a giant purse that I can fit everything in my house in. Carson Kressley says if you carry a ginormous bag it makes your butt look small in comparison. :D
PSkinner Posted July 20, 2011 #53 Share Posted July 20, 2011 If I carry anything on the ship it fits into a fanny pack! Have to have my hands free to carry my Drinks!!!
StillPooh Posted July 20, 2011 #54 Share Posted July 20, 2011 Have to have my hands free to carry my Drinks!!! Handbag is just an expression. ;) All mine have a long enough strap drop to wear over the shoulder.
TriciaEMTB Posted July 20, 2011 #55 Share Posted July 20, 2011 For my cruise the only bag im bringing is a messenger bag with zipper closure. Someone cant run by a pull it off because its cross body instead of just on my shoulder and because its zippered you cant simply slip your hand into it. And for $25 it isnt something id cry over if it got ruined.
kelkel2 Posted July 20, 2011 #56 Share Posted July 20, 2011 Nope. I don't carry my purse while on the ship. I put my S&S card in my or my husband's pocket and my camera has a little wrist strap. That's all I need. I don't need my wallet and I don't use my cell phone. When I go on the islands I do, however take my purse with me then. I just really enjoy being "free" from my purse. tkat Posted July 20, 2011 #57 Share Posted July 20, 2011 I use a purse on land and feel strange without one. But on the ship I have this camera case that will fit in my pocket if need be. It has an outside zipper pocket that will hold my S&S, lip balm and some money. I found that if I put the camera in with its wrist strap to the end I can zip the case and use the strap to carry it. I can even fold the tear away schedule up and put it in there as well. Great thing was I found it at the Dollar Tree and have used it for 5 years now. leaski Posted July 20, 2011 Author #58 Share Posted July 20, 2011 Wow. You all have lots of great options! I like the mini hipster bag the best. Kind of what I was looking for, but is it big enough to hold a nook color? I wish I could get away with the S&S card in a pocket, however I am VERY forgetful and would lock myself out of the room! When I am cruising with DH it's not a huge deal most of the time because we are together and I know he will always have the key. At home I have to keep my keys on a lanyard because I can't count how many times I locked myself out, or left them on a shelf in a store, because I set them down 'just for a minute', while I looked at something. I have accepted this and now always keep them on a lanyard. My S&S card goes on one of the casino clips so I can just attach it to me. This trip I am with my grandson, so no DH to fall back on. How embarrasing would it be to go get him from Camp Carnival so he can unlock the door for me.:o
Alwaysundecided Posted July 20, 2011 #59 Share Posted July 20, 2011 If I am at the pool, I may carry a larger bag to accomodate the sunscreen, etc, but it is not something that I will lug around the ship. Other than that, my SS card goes into my DH pockets during any other time!
midnblue Posted July 20, 2011 #60 Share Posted July 20, 2011 No big bag for me. Waist purse. (and I don't care if they are not hip anymore) I like my hands free. I do carry a backpack for the excursions and beach days off ship.
cruzn buckeye Posted July 20, 2011 #61 Share Posted July 20, 2011 where do you put your purse at dinner? On the table? In your lap?
StillPooh Posted July 20, 2011 #62 Share Posted July 20, 2011 where do you put your purse at dinner? On the table? In your lap?We had anytime dining on the Pride, mostly on the upper level rail where I could safely hang my purse on the back of my chair without anyone having easy access to it. When we were in a booth for 4, it was beside me. Otherwise I could have easily put it on my lap, or on the floor if it was a bag with feet. Rosefloater Posted July 21, 2011 #64 Share Posted July 21, 2011 On the Paradise last year, I saw all these women carrying huge purses. I decided to make a collage. One year, I saw a lady take a bingo ball cage out of her purse.
RIRedhead64 Posted July 21, 2011 #65 Share Posted July 21, 2011 I never carry my full sized purse...I usually carry a wristlet or a very small purse, just big enough for the room key and a few other small essentials....:D
Inklight Posted July 21, 2011 #66 Share Posted July 21, 2011 I carry either a small cross-body bag to hold necessities such as S&S card, brush and lip gloss or a larger, soft cross-body bag (more like a beach tote) to hold additional items such as sunscreen and my Nook if needed. At night I go small, too. :)
platinum.wannabe Posted July 21, 2011 #67 Share Posted July 21, 2011 Wow. You all have lots of great options! I like the mini hipster bag the best. Kind of what I was looking for, but is it big enough to hold a nook color? I would think so, because of what this poster said... I do too.....I have the regular hipster which is larger that I used to carry when I had books, but now I carry this minihipster which is just the right size for my kindle and other have to haves. :)
spcopps Posted July 21, 2011 #68 Share Posted July 21, 2011 I have 3 children ages 7, 7 and 3 so I do carry a bag on the ship. I have a Coach backpack that I use when we vacation. I can use it as a sling bag or a backpack and it's handfree!
trptplayer22 Posted July 21, 2011 #69 Share Posted July 21, 2011 I have 3 that go. My regular purse ( I don't carry a huge purse normally) I take to port and board with, if I didn't I just know I'd forget something important. Onboard I have a very small purse some cash and cigs not alot more in there. Then I have my excursion bag, I take this incase we buy something while on an excursion. Both the little tiny purse and excursion bag I carry over my shoulder and head so no one can grab and go or I don't worry about dropping it. CupKayke Posted July 21, 2011 #70 Share Posted July 21, 2011 where do you put your purse at dinner? On the table? In your lap? I'm curious. WHY would you need a purse at dinner?? It's free and the tipping is already paid for!! You really only need to take your drink in with you! :D

nodogkisses Posted July 21, 2011 #72 Share Posted July 21, 2011 I love Rosefloater's collage--so funny! Those large bags are even smaller than my beach bags that I use onboard during the day and and port stops. I have so much it seems to take to the Serenity Deck for the day (sunglasses, sunscreen, magazines, lip gloss, hair conditioner spray, hats, iphone, S & S card, journal, pens, book, coverup, towel and more) But, in the evenings, it's a wristlet for me--iphone, lipstick, S & S card. abqmommyof4 Posted July 21, 2011 #73 Share Posted July 21, 2011 where do you put your purse at dinner? On the table? In your lap? the bulldog sits on the table ( its small only about the size of a large apple) only holds lipstick and S&S card. (plus $.50 for a phone call-- i know used to be a dime) besides what more do I need???
Wayfairers Posted July 21, 2011 #74 Share Posted July 21, 2011 I leave the big purse at home and carry a very small cross body purse around the ship and on excursions with my S&S card, ID, hand sanitizer, a pen and my camera. At dinner I change to a wristlet that holds the same. I carry a purse to dinner because I never know when I want to take a picture or use my S&S card for a drink. I put the wristlet in my lap while at the table.
lady_cruiser Posted July 21, 2011 #75 Share Posted July 21, 2011 Do you carry your full size, normal everyday purse, while on a cruise? .... 97% of the time I carried what is called a bracelet mate. It holds my Sea Pass Card, Driver's License, a credit card or two and folding money. The wallet part goes on the inside of my wrist (against my body) and the bracelets are on the top of my wrist giving the appearance that I am wearing a "bracelet". I feel more secure wearing it, especially when in port. I even wear it when running errands around town. You can find the web-site by Googling it. Here is a photo of it:
