Am I The Only One?????

In reading all these posts about CDS on the Summit,I'm beginning to wonder if I'm the only one that is concerned about the disco????? I know it may not be important to some people but I love to dance and being in the disco on a cruise ship is one of my favorite things in the world to do!!!! It seems like I may have made the wrong choice in choosing Celebrity......I am reading lots of posts from people saying that there is not much "night-life" and that the ship "shuts down" at 10:00??? Now don't get me wrong, I am 42 years old and love to relax and do nothing just as much as the next person, but I DO like to have fun on vacation! I'm beginning to think that I'm gonna be the only one on the ship in the disco!!! Please don't "bash" me....I'm just voicing my opinion and would love to get some input. I'm not a wild and crazy person, but when I save up for almost two years for a vacation,I want to have fun!!!!!

TBELIAN.....actually I can't provide you with posts,I was just "browsing" around the other day and it seemed like the people that were considering switching to Celebrity were getting responses like: Don't plan on much night life, there's not much activity around the pool, not much entertainment, etc.Maybe I just came across a bad post, but it did kind of discourage me a little. I mean it sounded like I should just plan on eating my dinner and going to bed!!!!! Like I said,I'm no party animal by any means.....my favorite thing to do on sea days is lay by the pool all day and soak up the sun and listen to the pool band....but as I said,I like to have fun at night!

Well, we had plenty to do on the Inifnity in sept/oct 04, and plenty on other crusies, including lots of fun at Hemisphere (disco on Century). I can't say in what way CDS has had an impact on the disco, they have not been on a ship we cruised on recently. I would say expect to have a good time, and you will.

Shelley,

Unless the CDS has totally changed things, and I will findout firsthand as you in three weeks, the disco was always fairly well attended. Sometimes the band was better than the DJ and vice versa. But as to going to bed at 10:00P.M. I am sure there were people doing that, but I am not one of those who does and noticed an awful lot of folks still up late, in the casino,Reflections, and the other lounge, whatever it's name is. The worse thing in the disco may be the music the DJ picks! Also there is usally a band playing by the pool, the same one that is in the disco. Granted it's not like RCCL where you have the belly flop contests and horse races by the pool. Depending on the Cruise Director there will be some activity around the pool. Celebrity usually organizes two groups for a week long competition, around the whoile ship. Sometimes it is fun to watch, other times I just soak up the sun and could care less!

being a past Princess cruiser

I can't speak for Princess, never cruised on em', but my DW did along with my MIL, and they have also cruised Celebrity. They both say they like Celebrity better,

I think knowing that they are different products will help with the enjoyment process. I've never had a bad time on a Celebrity cruise. I'm sure you will enjoy yourself as well. have a great trip!

We are about in the same age range, my hubby & I both turn 39 this year. This will be our 3rd Celebrity cruise and we have NEVER had to go to bed due to there being nothing to do - out of exhaustion, sunburn or over-excessive drinking all day yes but due to nothing interesting going on no! The CDS experience doesn't even start til 10:17pm so you must have read something wrong there thinking everything was over by 10pm onboard. After it is done, say around midnightish then the area turns into a standard disco, so you can boogie your booty away! And from what I have read from a few reviews about the Constellation there were plenty of bodies up there late at night - hubby & I aren't dancers so not our kind of thing to do so no 1st hand experience. Now, besides this area there are several other bar/lounge areas with different types of music, some of the broadway shows or comedians are late night 11pm, karaoke is after 10pm, etc. You will not be bored.

As far as pool games, we have always seen sexy legs contests for men, horse races, etc. on Celebrity. Now there may not be as many as some other cruiselines, and they are a bit more understated - this isn't Carnival! - but they always have something while you are up there and there is a band that plays too. Now that IS where I do give props to the other cruiselines as their pool bands are reggae/calypso type music, just what you would expect while cruising the Caribbean, Celebrity's band is a mix of this and lounge act, but most of the songs are sing-along type that everyone knows...I would prefer steel drum all day long if I had my choice! but it doesn't ruin my vacation by any means! you will enjoy yourself, and if for some odd reason you find it isn't you, well you will know for the next cruise. Enjoy! :D

Perki....thanks so much for the great response! I feel better now! Although,I must admit that I am bummed that there won't be a reggae band by the pool.....that really gives you the whole "caribbean" feeling...but I guess I can't have everything right! Thanks again!

WHAT?? no raggee band. That is one of my favorite things on a cruise. I love to sit at the pool and listen to all the Caribbean music that I never hear at home. Please someone tell me that there will be a band playing Caribbean music on the Summit.

Princess has such an awsome band on the Grand last year. And Oh what a disco they had. Please don't tell me that I should have gone back to Princess. This will be my first cruise that is longer than 7 nights and I want to feel all the Magic.

Mary Beth

Cruizaddict, I think Im on your cruise and this is first Celebrity cruise for both of us.

Hi Mary Beth....I believe we are on the same cruise. It sounds like we are pretty much exactly alike when it comes to cruising. I just get a "tingly" feeling all over when I hear those steel drums and that too is one of my favorite things to hear while laying by the pool drinking a pina colada! I guess the disco thing is gonna be a little different from Princess due to the whole Cirque thing. And from what I hear,it doesn't even open until the 3rd night of the cruise, according to someone who recently sailed on the Summit. I....like you have certain "memories" that I like to retain when I cruise and some of them are the "reggae" band and dancing the night away watching the world go by! I too made the switch to Celebrity because of all the great things I have heard, and I'm sure we won't be dissapointed....things may just be a little different than what we're used to. Are you and your sister the "crazy" ones that posted a long time ago????????

Don't worry they do play some reggae/caribbean music by the pool as I noted before though they mix it with sing-along songs too though, not just reggae. So you will get your fix, just not a steady stream of it. Also, since they only play for an hour or so at a time if you plan on being out there any length of time bring your own CD walkman your own Bob Marley CD and sit back and relax with a frosty cold beverage of choice - pure heaven!

:) Wow, you took the words right out of my mouth!!!!!!! The Disco is a big concern of mine too because I look forward to dancing so much! I just love it and only other people who love to dance understand that urge!!!!! I too enjoy a good Reggae Band and don't know what to expect on the Celebrity Cruise. I know we'll have a good time but if I can let loose at the Disco, it'll be even better!

We're going to have a fab-U-lous 11 days starting on 4/11!!!! Not to worry! As others have said, the pool bands usually do play Reggae and most of them at least have steel drums.

Our group sounds fun - so we could probably commandeer the disco and keep it hopping all night, every night!!!!

Don't worry - it's going to be wonderful!

Bed at 10???? We are still eating dinner at that time. This is our 10 cruise with X and I don't think I have been to bed b/4 midnight. Thats late for me since I wake up around 6. There is plenty of music so don't worry. Rich

What we noticed about our Galaxy cruise is that there was a lag in between eating and the fun. On Princess, there was non-stop stuff going on. Man, I looked up (while on Princess) and it was 1-2 am! On the Galaxy (which we loved), the evening lost its momentum around 10:30 while waiting on the disco to start. We did like the disco, but got that sleepy "what do ya wanna do" feeling. I hope it will be different on the April 17th Millennium.

Shelly:

You got another bootie shaker here on your cruise. We WILL be dancing into the wee hours if we have to get a radio and dance on deck!!!!! We don't "go to bed with the chickens" at home and sure won't do it while on vacation. There will be plenty of dancing.....party-smiley-018.gif don't worry!

Another person here who eats late and at 10:00 we are usually still at dinner.

We went to shows that started at 10:45-11:00, so not sure where the "early to bed mentality" is coming from.

Just off Century and one evening they had a wonderful Caribbean Night on the Pool Deck. They had a big buffet out there and LOTS OF DANCING:D It went on till late. Our whole table went together and had a fantastic time:)

O.K., so I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed, and having dyslexia doesn't help, but I started reading the first post to this thread quickly and was wondering what the CDC and Norovirus had to do with the disco, late nights and dancing. Took me a minute to realize that people weren't complaining about a lack of night life other than trips to the loo!

But yes, figured out what CDS was. Gave me a chuckle though- sad how easily I can amuse myself!
