billyelliot Posted July 24, 2011 #1 Share Posted July 24, 2011 Hi could anybody help me with this? We are flying from Gatwick to USA and cruising back to Southampton. We will then need to get back to Gatwick for our car. Does anybody have any suggestions? Thanks x
SadmanCruiser Posted July 24, 2011 #2 Share Posted July 24, 2011 Try National Express coaches, they offer a 'funfare' from Southampton bus station to Gatwick for £6.00. It costs around a fiver to get from the ship to the bus station. Other option is coach or train to London then a change to get to Gatwick. Remember to allow enough time when disembarking. We have used National Express on many occasions and will continue to do so. Hope this helps. Pete & Carol
SwissDave Posted July 24, 2011 #3 Share Posted July 24, 2011 Alternatively there are trains from Soton to Gatwick - takes about 2 hours.
billyelliot Posted July 24, 2011 Author #4 Share Posted July 24, 2011 Thanks for yor info! I have looked at both coach and rail. At the moment it is only showing cheap coach tickets unto Sept. We want Oct. Will they put cheap fares on later? Rail fares are up for Oct. And I can get a cheap fare with them from Southampton central. Which is the best journey? And what time do you recommend I book? The one Iv been looking at is 1015am thanks x
SwissDave Posted July 24, 2011 #5 Share Posted July 24, 2011 10:15 will be perfectly fine. There are always loads of taxis available when you get off the ship (i've never had to wait for one anyway). National Express prices for October should be posted in the next week. I couldnt choose between the journeys myself, although the coach is probably easier luggage wise as oyu wont have to lift it on and off yourself - but - take note of National Express luggage policy, I'm sure they have a weight limit, and possibly number of pieces as well. BMT Posted July 24, 2011 #6 Share Posted July 24, 2011 We always use the train. Avoiding traffic jams, accidents on motorways etc. Less stress.
sddsddean Posted July 24, 2011 #7 Share Posted July 24, 2011 Just be aware, if you are travelling on a Sunday, there is no direct train to LGW and trust me, you do not want to change at Clapham Junction with luggage! Simon
Rare insidecabin Posted July 25, 2011 #8 Share Posted July 25, 2011 IMO train is best option right into the terminal at gatwick. More comfortable than the coach Have you looked at leaving the car at Southampton? Will depend on flight times and where you live which is most convenient. Look at the daysave max £12pp allthough cheaper is avaialble with advance tickets. http://www.southernrailwaytickets.com/buytickets/daysave/DaySave.php?sEvent=TicketDetails and agree if a Sunday no train. billyelliot Posted July 30, 2011 Author #9 Share Posted July 30, 2011 Thanks everybody for your info. I have managed to get train tickets for £3.70 each!! Southern railway has a 25% off offer on at the moment. Just hope Iv booked the right station. (central) We are travelling down from the north so this is best option for us. Just need to book over night stay and parking now at Gatwick!

Its just north of the City Cruise terminal (berth 101)...about a £7 taxi ride from any cruise terminal. Simon
