We are flying into Newark Airport on 14th Sept 2011 and booked in at Hilton Newark Penn Station hotel prior to cruise from Brooklyn cruise terminal next day. Have seen replies on message board that some go back to airport and pick up Princess shuttle to port. Spoke to Princess in UK and they say they do not operate out of Newark only JFK.

Can anyone give up to date info on this shuttle or best transport to port. Also thinking of changing hotel to Brooklyn area and travel direct to new hotel from airport.

It will cost a minimum of $100 to get from New Jersey to Brooklyn NY....if you can change your hotel, I would look for something in Brooklyn...

You COULD try one of the car services such as Dial 7 or carmel...

http://www.dial7.com

http://www.carmellimo.com

good luck..

and yes, there is a hotel at NEWARK Penn Station..and it IS a Hilton.....

OP let us know what else we can do to assist you......

Thanks for you input we will certainly look at what you have given us

long time since last in NY

:)

Are you going to want to sightsee at all? If so I would stay in the Financial District downtown (Ritz-Carlton, Eurostars Wall Street, Wall Street Inn, Club Quarters, Embassy Suites, Marriott, Hilton, etc) and call Dial 7 for a car to take you to the cruise port.

If you just want to crash in your hotel, sleep, and get something to eat, I'd book the Marriott Brooklyn Bridge and hop a cab to port.

As far as Princess out of Newark, I know they do have transfers to the pier from Newark airport. We also booked our return to Newark from the pier with them. It was $29 each way per person. We are also on a September cruise out of Brooklyn.

minutes - if you can arrange the Princess transfers you have a good plan if you are less than 4 people. $29/pp from Newark to Brooklyn is an excellent deal - as Meg points out the one way car service from Newark to Brooklyn is in the $100 range.

Newark Penn Station Hilton gives you options if you want to do something. For $5/pp you can take the train to midtown NY or for $1.75 you can take Path downtown to the World Trade Center. There are also a lot of Spanish/Portuguese restaurants in downtown Newark if you just want to have a nice dinner.

Good suggestion. minutes is from Wales and might be more open to the public transit option. To use the Princess transfer they will have to get their luggage on the airport shuttle, probably end up at the P4 monorail station, get their luggage to the Princess shuttle (which may be at a terminal and not P4), and drive to Brooklyn. Path is across the street from the hotel and is a 22 minute ride to World Trade. Lots of escalators to get out to the street to catch a cab for the short ride to Brooklyn - probably a $20 fare (3.8 miles) if they use the Brooklyn Bridge. It could be done for under $25.
