meow! Posted July 26, 2011 #1 Share Posted July 26, 2011 Does Azamara ships provide (be it for free or for purchase) sea sickness pills on board? If so, what type?
bronnie43 Posted July 26, 2011 #2 Share Posted July 26, 2011 Hi meow - I asked a similar question, you can see the answers here http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1445076 Basically, from what I've been told, is that sea sickness pills are available for free from the Guest Relations desk. They are called "Bonine".
Grandma Gilly Posted July 26, 2011 #3 Share Posted July 26, 2011 Not sure what they are but they really work! Get them from Guest Relations desk.
bocatraveler09 Posted July 26, 2011 #4 Share Posted July 26, 2011 Bonine works like dramamine. Important is to take them before you feel seasick, as soon as you're heading into bumpy waters. The only side effects I've experienced are dry mouth and some drowsiness, but far better than the alternative!
meow! Posted July 26, 2011 Author #5 Share Posted July 26, 2011 Thank you all kindly. Bonine is meclizine hydrochloride, the one we are looking for. It is reassuring to know that the ship provides this. It is surprising that it is no longer available at CVS drug stores. Does any of you know why? pickypicky Posted July 27, 2011 #6 Share Posted July 27, 2011 Just to add to the previous comments--we were on Regent to AK lately and they had big bowls of candied ginger available everywhere--I wasn't sick, just a little queasy, and it worked for me--you might try that if it's available and you don't want to take meds. (and you like ginger:))
virginia beach girl Posted July 27, 2011 #7 Share Posted July 27, 2011 We use ginger capsules we get at a pharmacy or health food store. They work great and no weird feeling with it like you can get a Dramamine type pill. I also take ginger candy chews with me. It's what the Navy uses for sailors so it must be worth something. jms Posted July 27, 2011 #8 Share Posted July 27, 2011 To Meow I bought some Bonine 2 days ago at our local CVS here in Pennsylvania. They also carry their own CVS brand of the same drug at about half price. I normally take 1 bonine each night at bedtime so that the drowsiness isn't an issue. Each one is good for 24 hours and they do work like magic.

I'd ask the store manager about the lack of availability.
meow! Posted July 27, 2011 Author #10 Share Posted July 27, 2011 Thank you all. We will go and buy some ginger. As for bonine, the CVS close to us in California does not have it. Perhaps it is just that store. We will look around, and as others have posted, presumably it is available on the ship.

I got them from Long's Drug - which still retains that name (Long's) even though they were bought out by CVS.
Arizonasunshine Posted July 28, 2011 #12 Share Posted July 28, 2011 We were on Quest last January and experienced Gale force 7 and 8 winds and seas at 40 feet. Ginger and soda crackers were available free of charge at guest relations. My wife bought sea sickness bands onboard at less what than we saw them for sale in the stores. At first I didn't think they would work but they did. Maybe mental, maybe not, but the results were good

azalice Posted July 29, 2011 #14 Share Posted July 29, 2011 Costco (if you have one near you) sells the meclazine (generic) - a big bottle for about 5 dollars.

I tend to suffer a little from motion sickness and have found the accupressure sea sickness bands work wonders. While they are not the most attractive things to wear, they have no side effects and unlike some of the medications, you can start using them after you feel ill.
