I was thrilled to find out that on Paradise we have the ability to call home while out cruising from our stateroom. It was only 99 cents per minute to call the US. I was cruising without kids and was happy that I could make a quick call to check in. It is certainly cheaper then calling from my cell phone.

That price would have been a reasonable price in my book, wish it was .99 when I had to use the phone to call home. Towards the end of one of our cruises we rec'd an email from DD telling us she was in a car accident and totaled the car but that I shouldn't worry (yeah right) so I ended up racking up over $200 in charges for the phone.

If your family has a computer at home, you can use Carnival.com for free, and post on the Currently On Board Forum.

Everyone has to be registered to reply to your post, of course, and it is a public forum, so all can see it.

Not as good as a human voice, but a lot cheaper!

The Legend had $0.99 per minute rates on our July 3 cruise.

It would be Awesome if they still had that rate in November on the Legend when we said on her:D I believe people will tend to make more calls rather than straying away from them with the lower rates.

Is it free to use carnival.com while onboard? We are taking one of my daughter's friends with us when we sail the Magic in Feb. and this may be a good way for her to keep in touch with home.

Yes it is. When you open your browser, a page will come up asking if you want to purchase internet minutes. On the right hand side of the page is a notice that there are free sites, and a link to each one.

Am I the only one .....I leave specific instructions not to call me for anything. They know when I get off the boat and call me when I am on land and heading home. I can not do anything but worry, fret and be miserable in the middle of a cruise. Nothing can't wait 5 days. If something happened to my mom. They would make arrangements and delay services until I got home. And I have the same rules for my brother when he is on vacation. Why worry people when it is not easy for them to get home.

I hope that is true when we cruise (.99 min) I would be more inclined to make a quick phone call home at that rate than at $6.99/min....and yes we did that on our very first cruise. I thought it would be me wanting to call and check in, nope, it was DH :p and for around 5 min too  ...$5 sure sounds better than $35

I so agree with this and these are my instructions when I leave to go on a cruise!

i guess i am in the minority..........i love shutting off the cell and not having a computer......i have confidence that my family can handle any situation for a few days without me..........there isn't much i could do from a cruise..........so they just take care of any problems...........
