jking917 Posted August 9, 2011 #1 Share Posted August 9, 2011 I was thrilled to find out that on Paradise we have the ability to call home while out cruising from our stateroom. It was only 99 cents per minute to call the US. I was cruising without kids and was happy that I could make a quick call to check in. It is certainly cheaper then calling from my cell phone. firefly333 Posted August 9, 2011 #2 Share Posted August 9, 2011 Its a test, not permanent Ill bet, as others have seen these rates and other low rates come and go.
ItsAllAboutTheSass Posted August 10, 2011 #3 Share Posted August 10, 2011 We saw those rates on the Destiny earlier this year as well.
*Mach* Posted August 10, 2011 #4 Share Posted August 10, 2011 Yep... it's an evaluation. Most ships are still $6.99/minute. Some are $.99, two ships I believe, a few are $2.99 and the rest remain at the regular price. :)
Larry'sLady Posted August 10, 2011 #5 Share Posted August 10, 2011 The Legend had $0.99 per minute rates on our July 3 cruise.

That price would have been a reasonable price in my book, wish it was .99 when I had to use the phone to call home. Towards the end of one of our cruises we rec'd an email from DD telling us she was in a car accident and totaled the car but that I shouldn't worry (yeah right) so I ended up racking up over $200 in charges for the phone. bplazo Posted August 10, 2011 #7 Share Posted August 10, 2011 I like the idea of a better price and calling from your stateroom. I dislike cell phone use in public.
MSRussell Posted August 10, 2011 #8 Share Posted August 10, 2011 If your family has a computer at home, you can use Carnival.com for free, and post on the Currently On Board Forum. Everyone has to be registered to reply to your post, of course, and it is a public forum, so all can see it. Not as good as a human voice, but a lot cheaper! SteelerCruiser Posted August 10, 2011 #9 Share Posted August 10, 2011 The Legend had $0.99 per minute rates on our July 3 cruise. It would be Awesome if they still had that rate in November on the Legend when we said on her:D I believe people will tend to make more calls rather than straying away from them with the lower rates. jking917 Posted August 10, 2011 Author #10 Share Posted August 10, 2011 I hope they keep that rate. It is nice to know you can call home if you need too. It really is a good piece of mind thing.

We are taking one of my daughter's friends with us when we sail the Magic in Feb. and this may be a good way for her to keep in touch with home. When you open your browser, a page will come up asking if you want to purchase internet minutes. On the right hand side of the page is a notice that there are free sites, and a link to each one. kbmeow Posted August 11, 2011 #15 Share Posted August 11, 2011 Am I the only one .....I leave specific instructions not to call me for anything. They know when I get off the boat and call me when I am on land and heading home. I can not do anything but worry, fret and be miserable in the middle of a cruise. Nothing can't wait 5 days. If something happened to my mom. They would make arrangements and delay services until I got home. And I have the same rules for my brother when he is on vacation. Why worry people when it is not easy for them to get home.
SadieN Posted August 11, 2011 #16 Share Posted August 11, 2011 This was the same rate on the Paradise in May. And last February.
cawagner Posted August 11, 2011 #17 Share Posted August 11, 2011 I hope that is true when we cruise (.99 min) I would be more inclined to make a quick phone call home at that rate than at $6.99/min....and yes we did that on our very first cruise. I thought it would be me wanting to call and check in, nope, it was DH :p and for around 5 min too  ...$5 sure sounds better than $
