Deval Posted August 16, 2011 #1 Share Posted August 16, 2011 We booked ES on Liberty week of 9/10. Somethings come up and we don't want to cancel but would like to change to either 8/27 or 9/24 (still going on Western route). Our TA is looking into it so we're waiting to hear. What can we expect? We know at best we'll have to pay some form of penalty as well as whatever the going rate is on those weeks, but is this something that can be done? If costs are too much, we'll just have to keep the week of 9/10 which we can make work, but we're hoping Carnival can help us out. Anyone have any experience with this?? firefly333 Posted August 16, 2011 #2 Share Posted August 16, 2011 There was a thread earlier today you might want to read .. where they escalated it to a higher supervisor and were able to change for only a $200 penalty, very very lucky. Otherwise the penalty is around 75% if you cancel. (changing weeks is a cancel and rebook)
gone_cruisin Posted August 16, 2011 #3 Share Posted August 16, 2011 Are these dates for 2011 or 2012? Because if they are 2011 you are going to get hit hard with a HUGE penalty and lose most every penny.

You are right, I assumed this year since they did not put a year. OP if its 2012 and ES, then the penalty is just $50 pp.
Deval Posted August 16, 2011 Author #5 Share Posted August 16, 2011 2011 . . . we're less than 4 weeks out. 75% penalty's not gonna work so if thats what TA comes back with we'll remain booked for 9/10!
gone_cruisin Posted August 16, 2011 #6 Share Posted August 16, 2011 Yeah, this close to sailing, you really have very limited options. If you are able to work with the date you have selected, financially you are going to be better off.
teddy'sgirl Posted August 16, 2011 #7 Share Posted August 16, 2011 We were in the same situation a couple of weeks ago when we moved our son to a different school system and needed to change our dates to work with his Fall Break. We booked Early Saver. We were able to change our date to the week before. This cost us $250.00 ($50 pp and there are 5 of us) plus the difference in cruise price. We hated to have to do that but it was a small price to pay for being able to keep our vacation plans and be able to change schools for our son. On the up side of this, we have always stayed on the Main or Riviera Deck and we booked a room on the Empress Deck when we changed so we get a little different view point. We had also used a FCC when we originally booked and we were able to keep that deposit and our OBC. Hope that helps.

Deval Posted August 16, 2011 Author #10 Share Posted August 16, 2011 thx Bill. TA spoke w/ Carnival last night & if we pick a new date they will speak with Guest Services and see what they can do. We picked 9/24/2011 (2 weeks later) and price is only $115 more (total), so we're hoping they will still only charge us $50/pp for the change. If penalty too much, we'll stay on 9/10 so may see you! Yes as firefly said more exceptions lately and really not fair to those of us who they didn't bend for.

luvcruisin80 Posted August 17, 2011 #16 Share Posted August 17, 2011 We just did the same thing last week. We paid $50pp to change our cruise in December. We were told that if we had waited too much longer than it would have been more. Hope all works out for you!
Deval Posted August 19, 2011 Author #17 Share Posted August 19, 2011 ok, so here's the bottom line . . . $50/pp change fee + rate difference for 6C on the 9/24 sailing. total came to $213, and for us it was worth it to change. total out the door for the week comes to $1,330, excluding tips. I remember going on NCL back in '90 when we paid $1,500 for cheapest inside cabin! definitely puts this into perspective!! cruising continues to be a fantastic value . . . prices of drinks aren't $2 anymore but they have to make their $$'s somewhere!! lol

Deval Posted August 19, 2011 Author #19 Share Posted August 19, 2011 now that we changed to 9/24, isn't that the last week before Liberty goes into dry dock? I was on Monarch of the Seas some years back when our weekend cruise was last trip before she went into dry dock & on last day the crew started closing sections of the deck, packing up chairs, etc. anyone think this will happen on the 9/24 sailing?? To cancel with less than 3 weeks til the cruise and still only getting charged $50 plus the difference in cabin prices is doing something. Sorry we wont see you on our cruise. Enjoy your new cruise.
