yeclano Posted August 16, 2011 #1 Share Posted August 16, 2011 I know that cruising is not just about the food, but I have never met anybody that has ever lost weight on a cruise. So what is the best thing that you have ever eaten? For me, it is the chateaubriand in the french restaurant on the GEM.
Rare Oviedo32765 Posted August 16, 2011 #2 Share Posted August 16, 2011 <snip>I have never met anybody that has ever lost weight on a cruise. <snip> You have now! :D Last year we spent a week in Seattle and then cruised for a week in Alaska. I weighed myself before we flew to Seattle and the day we returned home. I actually lost 1 pound! We walked everywhere and never used the elevators on board. I also ate a lot of beacon. My wife hates me for that. :p
oldguysandgalls Posted August 16, 2011 #3 Share Posted August 16, 2011 We don't exactly remember the best meal we've enjoyed on board NCL, but there was one particular dinner evening on the SS Norway and that was called " President's Dinner". It featured favourite dishes from past and current Presidents (and First Ladies) and every course(s) was amazing. Maybe it was because of the Presidential history connected with each dish, but suffice to say we still talk about it years later. I know that cruising is not just about the food, but I have never met anybody that has ever lost weight on a cruise. So what is the best thing that you have ever eaten? For me, it is the chateaubriand in the french restaurant on the GEM.
Langley Cruisers Posted August 17, 2011 #4 Share Posted August 17, 2011 ...but I have never met anybody that has ever lost weight on a cruise... Here I am. :) On my Oasis of the Seas cruise last year I came home 4 pounds lighter, and just recently after 3 weeks away (12 night cruise, the rest land vacation) I weighed exactly the same when I came home, I mean to the half pound. Exactly. Yes!
HAWKSBY Posted August 18, 2011 #5 Share Posted August 18, 2011 The mushroom soup on carnival was great- fortunately they included the recipe in their cookbook.
jocap Posted August 20, 2011 #6 Share Posted August 20, 2011 It was in Marco Pierre White's restaurant, on board Ventura. First was quail's eggs with pate, on a wafer base. Gressingham duck, with courgette chips and roast potatoes. Tiramasu, heavily dosed with alcohol. A bottle of recommended red wine, and a glass of Prosecco to start with. It cost an extra £25, but would have cost £160 in his restaurant in London. Jo.
cb at sea Posted August 20, 2011 #7 Share Posted August 20, 2011 Lobster bisque at Delmonico's(Venetian Hotel and Casino) in Las Vegas...stupendous! True...not on a ship, but it was the best bisque I've ever had!!! I've yet to have anything on a cruise ship that can compare to a really great land-based restaurant! RCI used to have a lovely green pepercorn sauce, but it's not like it used to be, in the 90's.
Wayfairers Posted August 22, 2011 #8 Share Posted August 22, 2011 On land.... The wine paired tasting menu at C in Cabo is the absolute best - every course was fantastic and it would be hard to choose a favorite. I've eaten at other really good restaurants, but this was great... it helped that it was my birthday and we got the private dining room and they printed the menus with Happy Birthday Tina on top! On board... hmmm... the food is always good but nothing that was memorable. The fresh sushi bar on Celebrity or the chilled soups in the MDR. Krazy Kruizers Posted August 22, 2011 #9 Share Posted August 22, 2011 The Jewels of the Ocean soup from HAL's Tamarind Restaurant -- PanAsian food. Yes -- we both lost weight on a cruise -- Crown Princess many years ago. They kept serving the same at lunch and dinner until it was finally gone!! The dining room manager stopped by our table one night and asked how the food was. BIG mistake. We all jumped on him. One woman at our table told him that if she wanted leftovers for days on end she would have stayed at home.
chrisgiant9 Posted August 27, 2011 #10 Share Posted August 27, 2011 The lamb chops on Celebrity, alas I must wait four months for more. Last cruise I put on ten pounds, and I am thin to start.:(

ktanchor Posted September 5, 2011 #13 Share Posted September 5, 2011 Our best meal at sea was at Le Champagne on Silversea's "Silver Shadow." It was a six course tasting menu with wine pairing and each course was better than the last! We were in Jamaica and they flew in that morning, fresh from England, grass fed lamb. It was unbelievable! We're going on Celebrity in October and I'm very interested in what you loved onboard. They were in the MDR and I wish I had gotten seconds. The Argentinian flank steak was also awesome. At the afternoon buffet, there were these incredible small croissants stuffed with cheese. The stir fry station was excellent. And of course, the thumbprint cookies in six varieties. Everytime I walked past I would grab more--stored some in the safe so they wouldn't get thrown out by my room steward. Even stocked up for after departure:D

One woman at our table told him that if she wanted leftovers for days on end she would have stayed at home. How strange. I've cruised Princess many times and the menu changed every evening. They do have a fixed menu that you can order from each night which is on the left side of the menu but the right side of the menu has each particular evenings choices and they always change. Oh my goodness. That does sound good. I'm sure Silversea's food is definitely many steps above the mass market cruiselines. Of course, the price difference in the cruise would account for that.
