ladybuginVA Posted March 26, 2005 #1 Share Posted March 26, 2005 Our 22 year old college daughter didn't want to join us on the Enchantment because "only gray-haired old people go on cruises". I called her cell phone from Key West and loudly whined, "Sweetie, I'm miserable. Some fraternity is having their national spring break 2005 conference on our ship and these 18-25 year old guys are everywhere! Well, Mom loves you and I hope you have a great week at work!" I hung up before she could cry! I didn't want to have to explain that I was NOT telling the truth. In reality, many of our fellow cruisers were in our 30's and 40's. Everyone standing around us roared with laughter and voted me "meanest mom"! Then I had to run around the ship and look for young men to snap pictures of to perpetrate my myth! I think that my dear daughter will sail with us next time! Eat key lime pie in Key West and play pranks on your kids - a new fun excursion idea! PhoenixCruiser Posted March 26, 2005 #2 Share Posted March 26, 2005 Laughing my butt off!!! You are the meanest mom :D ;) She will really regret not going with you!! ###
Bethwte Posted March 26, 2005 #3 Share Posted March 26, 2005 HAHAHA... Thats hillarious. I'm sooo glad I know better ;) Tell your daughter that an 18 year old (who has been on 7, soon 8 :D) cruises, that it is more certainly not gray-haired people. Even though you stretched the truth, I'm sure there will be younger people around her age on the ship anyways. I've always had fun, and actually, she and her friends would probably really have a great time on a Carnival or RCCL cruise... :)

ladybuginVA Posted March 26, 2005 Author #5 Share Posted March 26, 2005 Thanks for laughing with me. I wonder if anyone else plays pranks on their kids while cruising? The worst part is that my cell phone rang while we were still in Ft. Lauderdale. Darling daughter said, "Hey, Mom, do you want to meet for dinner?" I explained that we were about to board the cruise ship and realized that we had forgotten to tell her good bye when we left for the airport. We hadn't even thought to leave her an emergency phone number. Calling her with the prank from Key West really did it for her. She probably has abandonment issues now. Oh well....that's what kids are for....as you can see, we are still laughing!

just4kixx Posted March 26, 2005 #11 Share Posted March 26, 2005 That's a great story:D Too often I believe our kids (my kids, anyways ;) ) are just too darned spoiled! I guess someday when they have families of their own to raise they will realize how good they really had it! (it could happen  ) Hope you have a wonderfully exciting trip, talk about it for months to come, and have the pictures to rub it in :D A
davidaperryman Posted March 26, 2005 #12 Share Posted March 26, 2005 Several times we have called our daughter at her office and told her to look at the web cam at The Hoggs Breath Saloon and we wave to her. She likes that.
barbgazz Posted March 26, 2005 #13 Share Posted March 26, 2005 Quite a few years ago, when my kids were 13 and ten, we were on the turnpike and all these cars kept beeping at me as they passed me. They were raising their fists and shouting something, but I didn't know what. At that point my husband (who was in the passenger seat next me) turned about and looked at the kids. They were sitting in the back seat with white ankle wrapping tape over their mouths and binding their hands together. They were holding up a sign in the window that said "help us". Thank god this was before the cell phone age, or we would have been in big trouble. We have laughed about this for years. We were on our way home from a soccer tournament and the kids thought this was a riot.
Lissete Posted March 26, 2005 #14 Share Posted March 26, 2005 Too funny! Although my problem is trying to take a cruise WITHOUT them! They have been cruising since they were 3 & 4 (15 &16 now) and the love it. A little funny: On their very first cruise, the first night they were freaking out because we were leaving the dining room without paying. So we played along ( evil parents that we are) and acted like we were sneaking out.... didn't go on very long though. They were about to cry because they thought that we were all going to jail. wallie5446 Posted March 26, 2005 #15 Share Posted March 26, 2005 ladybug, tell Her she does not know what she has been missing. We took our DD on her 1st Cruise when she was 10 yrs old. And 10 Cruises later, when she turned 21, she went to work on Ship for RCI !
ladybuginVA Posted March 26, 2005 Author #16 Share Posted March 26, 2005 Daughter just read the postings and is mortified! She said that she thought we were lying and were really at Disneyworld. Why?...I had forgotten, but she reminded me that when she was 10 years old and going to her first children's camp, we boarded the church bus and presented her with a stuffed Minnie Mouse purse and a handful of Disney dollars, telling her that we hoped she had fun at church camp. She asked if we were going to Disney while she was at camp and we denied it...we were staying home. The bus stopped at the end of the church parking lot and she came flying off the bus crying. The gift was in preparation for a family trip later. The children's pastor still talks about it at her "kids' camp preparation talks for parents", So, I guess that the "meanest mom" label is well earned. By the way, she wants us to find a cruise for the family now to make up for these postings. Sounds good to me! Thanks for your input Beth, and the rest of the prank stories. I almost busted a gut laughing at Lissete's story. We'll try that on our first family cruise!!!! Anyone else have ideas for future pranks?

medolee Posted March 26, 2005 #18 Share Posted March 26, 2005 Too funny! Although my problem is trying to take a cruise WITHOUT them! They have been cruising since they were 3 & 4 (15 &16 now) and the love it. Now THIS is OUR problem. We have taken our 2 granddaughters to WDW--twice and on a Disney cruise--so when they heard us talking about this years cruise-their questions were "where are WE going?" So needless to say they are booked on 2 cruises this year! (they are 4 & 6) I guess we will never vacation alone unless we can hurry up and learn pig latin so we can talk without them knowing what were saying. And their parents???? Oh sure they are more than happy to let us take them. hmmmmm.....
hstrybuf Posted March 26, 2005 #19 Share Posted March 26, 2005 We didn't discover cruising until our kids were out of their teens. Now that they're in their 20's they think we're mean for not taking them cruising. I keep telling them if they want to play, they have to pay! ;)
davidaperryman Posted March 26, 2005 #20 Share Posted March 26, 2005 We couldn't afford to go cruising until the kids left home. Now one of them goes with us sometimes. With her husband.
MszKitty Posted March 26, 2005 #21 Share Posted March 26, 2005 Every year we would take family vacations to places like Disneyworld, Hawaii, camping, etc. And DH & I would take a cruise without our girls. Then....when our girls were 10 & 15 we took them on their first cruise. Before that first cruise with our girls, they used to ask..."where are we going for our family vacation this year?" Ever since then its been..."what cruise are we going on this year?". They are now 19 & 24 and we still take a cruise as our family vacation. They have met friends on cruises over the years that they are still friends with. Its perfect for us because DH loves to play cards in the casino, and I like to hang out in the lounges, bars, and disco. Now that they are older, our girls like doing both, so when they aren't hanging out with their new found friends, they will hang out with Dad in the casino, and hang out with Mom in the lounges or disco. Its great that we all enjoy doing some of the same things.

Arizona Cruz Chic Posted March 26, 2005 #23 Share Posted March 26, 2005 What a cute and funny thread... It was her loss that she didn't want to cruise with you, especially if you were paying her way!?! :D I can only hlep but think your daughter will just about die when she sees your pictures and all the fun she missed! It won't take long for her to be on-line looking up cruises for her to book with some friends! ***

LBB Posted March 26, 2005 #25 Share Posted March 26, 2005 I have gone on 3 cruises with my parents (I'm 29) and have enjoyed every one. But I have to say, when I don't get taken along, my parents find it extremely amusing to call me from the ship before it sails. They make sure to tell me about the great weather and blue seas. I'll be sailing in a month and a half and will definitely be calling from my balcony....
