OBC/Cruise Credit?

The Frankies

Recommended Posts

We are sailing shortly and already have sum in OBC that we wanted to use for the Daily Service Charge of $11 each (Can't remember proper name for this) Can we use OBC for this does anyone know?

We also appear to have been gifted a significant sum in Cruise Credits from friends in honour of our Wedding Anniversary.... I understand that we have to use all of this on the cruise as its not transferrable, but are there going to be restrictions on what we can use this for too?

Many Thanks in advance for your notes... this board is such a wealth of information for those of us who haven't cruised much before.:)

There are probably people much better qualified to answer this than me - but my understanding of OBC is that it can be used for just about anything except exchanging for "chips" in the casino. It is given as a credit against your final bill. But Cunards website seems to be sadly lacking ihn information about OBC.........!

We've used OBC to pay the service charge (and the wine bill) on Cunard without problem. Can't imagine the gift you have would be any diffferent.

If you ask for a statement part way through the cruise it isn't terribly clear how it works out between the two of you, but it all gets rolled together at the end.

Yes you can use the OBC for the daily fees, you only lose travel agent or Cunard gifted OBC if it is unspent. If you or a friend has purchased the credit then you will get the balance back assuming that there is some to get back. This policy was certainly the situation a year or so ago and logically there i sno reason for it to have been altered.

It seems that they have in fact changed their policy, mind you it would take a long time to launder drug money at $200 a time.!!!!

What a stupid policy they have on Cruise Credits  Our family and friends have hit a problem with the request for cruise credits as an anniversary present.... There is a $250 maximum per person so $500 per cabin :( All down to money laundering laws apparently but given that the credits would have been purchased by a number of different people, the rule is just ridiculous since we are not going to be given 'clean' money.. we have to use the credits for goods/services on board  As one irate friend told the nice person at Cunard, there is a limit to the 'Portrait Photo's' bouquets of flowers, boxes of chocolates that any couple would want on a 14 night cruise! We chose the credits so that we could use them for trips, table wine, champagne bar, shop purchases etc... Well Cunard you just lost out on some serious dosh to be spent by this statesroom as the friends have now pooled the funds Cunards policy made it difficult for them to apply and booked us a 3 night all expenses paid swanky spa hotel break instead :p

Good for them and you, they are seriously stupid if they actually enforce this policy.
