griffy116 Posted August 22, 2011 #2 Share Posted August 22, 2011 If you're only flying in for one night prior to the cruise, the Embassy Suites is great. They have a Manager's Reception (free drinks) in the evening and a breakfast that is fabulous, all included in the price. The suites are nice, clean and the staff is unbelieveably helpful. You're within walking distance to a store to pick up any soda or toiletries. They have an Outback Steakhouse and casino in the lobby. We arrived tired, worn out and STARVED. We had planned to grab a cab and explore, have dinner at somewhere at bit more "authenic" but thanks to some snags in our flights, we arrived in the afternoon and hadn't eaten anything ALL DAY! When we got there, we dumped the bags, hit Outback and stuffed ourselves. We headed straight to the Manager's reception and began to relax and feel a little more like human beings. We donated a few bucks to the casino and got a good nights rest. We had checked with the front desk and they arranged everything for a van to pick us up the next morning (9 of us). They were right on time and very professional. If I were staying for several days I might pick a hotel on the beach, but for a night to get there and relax before the cruise, this would be my pick. MJonTravel Posted August 22, 2011 #3 Share Posted August 22, 2011 Embassy Suites is a good one. If you're interested in being within walking distance of Old San Juan, we enjoyed the Sheraton during our last pre-cruise stay. It's too bad RCL boards from the Pan American pier on the other side of the harbor. You can walk to the cruise ship docks in Old San Juan from the Sheraton. Just a note regarding Sheratons in San Juan, there are 2. One is the one mentioned above in Old San Juan and there is also one at the Conventiion Center which is directly across from the Pan Am Pier. I've stayed at the Caribe Hilton and the Intercontinental and both are very nice. I would check out www.betterbidding.com and www.biddingfortravel.com to learn the ins and outs of Priceline and Hotwire and then go from there. NordicPrince Posted August 22, 2011 #5 Share Posted August 22, 2011 anyone have recommendations for a hotel in san juan? If you want to be in a fun area of San Juan aim to be in the Condado district along Avenida Ashford. It's only a 25 minute taxi ride from the airport and a 25 minute taxi ride to the Pan American pier. On our Jan 10 B2B we stayed at the Holiday Inn Express. This is sufficient if you just want a clean place to rest your head pre-or-post cruise. They offer a continental breakfast for guests. A good number of people from our Roll Call stayed at the Marriot Stella Solaris. This has a magnificent lobby bar and offers access to their own beach front. It has music at night and has its own casino. You pay a little more but you get more too. Both places offer access to the Condado which is where the action is. Our Roll Call went to a great restaurant featuring Puerto Rican specialties called Cafe del Angel. you can't go wrong there. Very informal but the food is to die for. Enjoy your cruise, San Juan is a great place to start your Southern Caribbean adventure from.
time4me2fly Posted August 22, 2011 #6 Share Posted August 22, 2011 I used priceline to bid on a hotel in the San Juan "Resort" area. I stayed at the Mariott San Juan Resort & Stellaris Casino. I was very happy with the price and hotel. I took a taxi from the airport to the hotel/hotel to ship/ship to airport.
oldguysandgalls Posted August 22, 2011 #7 Share Posted August 22, 2011 We stayed at the Hotel Milano right downtown in Old San Juan. Pre-cruise (2 nights), and again after the cruise (2 nights) and we'd definitely stay there again. It's THE perfect location for sightseeing etc. Here is the link: http://www.hotelmilanopr.com/?referrer=Google&gclid=CMH6zpP04aoCFYXBKgod8UxS6g anyone have recommendations for a hotel in san juan? newlifeca Posted August 22, 2011 #8 Share Posted August 22, 2011 We sailed this April and stayed at Marriott Stellaris in Condado beach, nice hotel, nice beach, about a $12 taxi ride to the Pan Am Pier.
Traveling Library Posted August 22, 2011 #9 Share Posted August 22, 2011 We liked the DoubleTree. A SuperMax supermarket is directly across the street. Ate breakfast at a French bakery which is just before Ashford Ave.
erin_cruisers Posted August 22, 2011 #10 Share Posted August 22, 2011 It depends on how much time you have to explore, and do you like to relax on the beach. Our first cruise out of San Juan, we stayed at the Sheraton Old San Juan. The location is perfect if you want to also explore the old town, and take in some great restaurants. This past April we stayed at the Radisson Ambassador in Condado. The hotel is fine, the roof-top pool so-so, but very good beach a block away, and close to some terrific restaurants. In July we cruised again and stayed at the Embassy Suites, Isla Verde (near the airport). It is 2 blocks from the beach, (a nicer beach actually), and the on-site pool is very nice. As others have mentioned they have the managers cocktail party, and great breakfast included in the price. Restaurants and casino too. Its our first choice. kayehall Posted August 24, 2011 #12 Share Posted August 24, 2011 I really wanted to stay at the Sheraton Old San Juan and i just bked it thru the cruiseline. However I was quoted 196.00 per person making it somewhat expensive. I was shocked. And i tried to book it thru the Sheraton web site and was blocked for only a 1 night stay. So questions....Does the Sheraton have a 2 nite minimum? Does the price sound correct? Does the Embassy Suites have transportation to the port? Thanks all, Kaye

Le Cruiser Posted August 27, 2011 #15 Share Posted August 27, 2011 We're looking at the following hotels in San Juan for our cruise - The Sheraton Puerto Rico Hotel & Casino (convention center), The Radisson Ambassador Plaza Hotel & Casino and The San Juan Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino. Prices look nice, they all seem to be located pretty close to the port where the Victory will sail from and the amenities are comparable. Any thoughts on these hotels, fellow cruisers? Thanks for your help, as always.

ej22ndrow Posted August 29, 2011 #19 Share Posted August 29, 2011 My flight gets into San Juan at 1:00am on a Friday night/Saturday morning and the ship leaves Saturday evening. I'm looking for a reasonably priced, clean place to get a few hours sleep and a shower before boarding the ship. I checked out most of the hotels listed above but most of them seem to be close to $200/night. That's a bit much to pay for a few hours. Any recommendations? You would be smart to go to www.betterbidding.com. You can check prices and wins of other people before you go to Priceline or Hotwire and bid for a hotel. We always get our hotels for about 1/3 the cost of what retail is. Decide what area(s) you want to stay in, look at the recent bids/wins for those areas, and bid accordingly. Just note that once you bid and buy, the reservations can't be changed or refunded for any reason.
oldstubblejumper Posted September 4, 2011 #22 Share Posted September 4, 2011 Is the Sheraton across from the port carnival uses? The Sheraton in Old San Juan is located accross from one of the pier's that Carnival uses and also is a half a block stroll to the crusie terminal and main Carnival pier.
