I apologize I think this has been answered but I cant seem to find it? If I call in advance and apply funds to my onboard account prior to sailing do I still need to register a debit/credit card when I go to register.

You never need to register one, you can check the box to put down cash at the pursers desk. Has nothing to do with putting money on your account ahead of time.

IF you do back up the account with a card, you only input the last 4 digits, so until you check in. they dont have the number anyway, and you can change your mind.

Is it true-that you can't use your card until you go and put the cash down on it at the purser's desk?

You certainly can use your credit card. Present it during check in processing and your on board expenses will be charged to it... no cash needed...

:)
