Handsome58 Posted September 22, 2011 #52 Share Posted September 22, 2011 is that on my cruise in August on the Dream I hit the free drink mark on the second day AND BOY DID IT MAKE THE REST OF THE CRUISE A BOOZE CRUISE!!!! LOL.........must have had 40 to 50 free drinks over the 6 nights and days.........it was a blast. Never really fall down drunk either........had pre-ordered Grey Goose, Bombay Saphire and Patron for the cabin. Ended bringing liquor home because I was drinking on them. LOL - yep, we have taken a few bottles onboard as well, only to lug them back home!! Though, you can't complain about that! :) Tom

I find that hard to believe as I cruise every year and spend a lot in the casino and it has never carried over. I will be cruising again in February, which will be 2 times in 9 months, so I am very curious as to where you got your info???

I'm pretty sure mine start over each cruise. That would be amazing, because I hit just under my 1500 on the last one, which means that I should be getting free drinks within the first hour...woohoo! You made my day :)

mikel24m Posted September 22, 2011 #58 Share Posted September 22, 2011 I don't know that they have ever told me how many points I have earned. Though on most sailings, if you hit the ground running at the $25 table (and are betting a few green or a couple of black chips per hand), in short order you will likely have drinks for the cruise. There were a couple of sailings where they gave me the card upon arriving in the casino on the first night - though I know most of the managers and hosts (or I did... they seem to have a lot of new faces in the last couple of years)! On NCL, their casino division (CAS, or Casinos at Sea) is where many return players actually book their cruise. Once you have established play history with them, you call up and let them know what sail date, ship, and cabin type you would like. At that point they will tell you what your rate is. After a 3 night cruise on the Sky (our first with NCL) I called back to book the Epic and received $1,200 off the going rate. After THAT sailing, I called back and rebooked the Epic through them, this time receiving a $2,000 discount!! Another advantage of booking though the NCL casino is when you arrive in your cabin on the first day of the cruise they have a "drinks are on us" card along with your players card waiting for you! They had one there for Cheryl as well, even though she didn't play. By doing that, you don't have to wonder/guess/worry about if or when the free drinks are coming. I have received a couple of my Celebrity sailings FREE thanks to play in their casinos! Thus, my opinion of Carnival's program is... well... not as high as those who give me FREE cruises or THOUSANDS of $'s off a sailing! ;) Still, on any ship, getting FREE drinks while playing is not the "sure thing" like it is in Vegas --- they have a captive audience, and they know it. Tom When you went on NCL if you dont mind me asking what did you bring to gamble.I usually bring around $5000 and I think Carnival is cheap with comps. Just think about it I can buy a fruit basket from BV for $50 I think, buy my own $5 bottles of water ,buy the boss her choc covered strawberries for 2 nights and buy the $20 pictures, buy a few bottles from BV and save the cost of my next 2 cruises.Im thinking about giving up gambling onboard and just play here in Atlantic City

I will usually bring a few thousand - as it can vanish quickly when playing black chips. On the Sky, I lost enough that I am SURE they wanted to see me come back! Tom
mikel24m Posted September 22, 2011 #60 Share Posted September 22, 2011 I wouldnt mind playing blacks as long as carnival had regular shoe not the continuous shuffler.I was a $1000 a hand player a few years ago and won big here but cant seem to win a nice amount onboard and I think its because you really cant get a "run or good shoe"

For the most part, all at the hands of CSMs. Tom

kayakittyyak Posted September 23, 2011 #65 Share Posted September 23, 2011 crap. my girlfriend loves these machines in arcades/dave and busters. she's drawn to them like moths to light. i better steer her away from the casino altogether. I'm a sucker for this machine also. I was on a cruise that was REALLY rocking, people couldn't walk straight, glasses were slide on the bar, but it didn't have any affect on this machine. I was playing it thinking things would definately fall, but didn't happen . Are there magnets in it? Also it took me a few years to figure out that the little metal cover you see on the bottom left actually has a drop for coins also .... so when you think it is so full that something has to fall it falls in that hole (one on each side)! LHP Posted September 23, 2011 #67 Share Posted September 23, 2011 The points you are earning are not exactly dollar for dollar. It's a combination of the money you put in the machine and how many credits you are earning. I usually take around $75 to $100 per day to lose and I'm usually at 1500 points by the 2nd or 3rd day. It's not uncommon for me to end up with 4000+ points by the end of a 7 day cruise. Hey girl....can't wait to see you on BC5!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Shipbound Posted September 23, 2011 #68 Share Posted September 23, 2011 Say you have to loose 500 hundred dollars or put 500$ into the slot machines. There is no way on this earth that I could drink 500 dollars worth of drinks, I would have one hangover that lasted the whole week. I wonder if people realize that these free drink after 1500 points is just a way to get people to gamble besides there is no such thing as a free lunch. Gary I believe these cards are geared towards the avid gambler and not someone that might put a few bucks in the machines. It would certainly put a dent in my sail and sign card;)

MissRabbit Posted September 23, 2011 #73 Share Posted September 23, 2011 When you chase points for the freebies, thats when they have you:). If you look at it as entertainment and realize that you may not make the points you can keep to your budget. Yup. We normally spend only $50/pp at the casino each cruise. While i would love free drinks, the money we'd put in chasing that goal, we could have bought the dang drinks ourselves!
