Babe2Cruiser Posted September 30, 2011 #1 Share Posted September 30, 2011 Hello All, We are a married couple cruising out of Florida on the Celebrity Equinox on March 16, 2012. We can't decide on which hotel to stay at (we are flying into Ft. Lauderdale on the 14th), we have narrowed it down (sort of), by selecting two hotels; the Embassy Suites or the B Ocean. Which one would you choose, or do you have a recommendation for one of the other hotels? It's our 20th wedding anniversary, so we would like someplace that's really nice, and it will be our first time visiting the state of Florida (we live in California). Thanks! JohninDC Posted September 30, 2011 #2 Share Posted September 30, 2011 ES is very nice and close to the port. Big rooms, shopping and dining options within walking distance, great breakfast and a free happy hour! :D It's one of our favorite hotels. Not familiar with your other option. Since it is your 20th, you may want to look at some of the higher rated, beachfront properties in Fort Lauderdale - Lago Mar, Ritz Carlton, etc.: some if it depends on when your flight arrives and how much time you'll have to enjoy the hotel. Good luck! :)
Heirloom Posted September 30, 2011 #3 Share Posted September 30, 2011 Huge fun, with many things to choose from, shopping, fine food, nice rooms, incredible pool area, casino action.....see what kinda deal you can get from Hollywood Seminole Hard Rock. It's 10 minutes from FLL airport. Recently did a mini 3 nighter. Awesome !
royalcruz Posted September 30, 2011 #4 Share Posted September 30, 2011 The B Ocean was recently totally renovated but it's a bit funky. The pool doesn't overlook the ocean like the more recently built hotels, and there are no balconies. If you like to shop, it's only about 6 blocks from Galleria Mall, which also has nice restaurants. It's about a $25 cab ride from the airport. I would stay there only if the price is great though. Embassy Suites is in a very convenient location to restaurants and wine stores and it's close to the port and airport, but it's not that nice of a hotel for a special occasion. Since it's a special occasion, you might look at nicer hotels, like Atlantic, W, Ritz Carlton, Diplomat, Lago Mar, or Marriott Harbor Beach. Babe2Cruiser Posted September 30, 2011 Author #5 Share Posted September 30, 2011 Thanks for responding to my post; A friend and his wife have stayed at the Embassy Suites before, but that was a few years ago, they enjoyed the Manager's Cocktail hour. I think I will look at some of the other hotel suggestions as well. Thanks again!
betterthanworking Posted September 30, 2011 #6 Share Posted September 30, 2011 Embassy suites is nice but rather pricey. The Renaissance, just down the street, is every bit as good and can often be booked through Priceline for about half the rate. They are both close to shopping and good dining. tracemyirishroots Posted October 3, 2011 #8 Share Posted October 3, 2011 Royalcruz... You seem to know the area. What about the Holiday Inn Express on 17th? We are only staying one night pre-cuise, and won't be getting in until early evening. Any thoughts? Tracey

Thanks so much, it had some decent reviews. I really didn't want to spend too much since we aren't spending much time there.

Babe2Cruiser Posted October 8, 2011 Author #13 Share Posted October 8, 2011 ...the Atlantic Hotel; we have really been saving for this cruise, and it was important (especially to me), that we have a romantic hotel for our 20th. (We've been through a lot). A little pricey, but again, we saved for this cruise. Thanks royalcruz, you are the best! I sure hope it's all that we expect.. and if it's not, what the heck, we'll still have a wonderful time!:D

I wouldn't stay there myself--even the gambling is pricey--what you think is a 25 cent machine is really 4 or more 25 cent bets a spin. Embassy Suites are really nice--but it isn't on the beach. You can purchase discount certificates for the Trina restaurant there on restaurant.com. Just sign up for restaurant emails so that you get notified when there is a sale and be sure to read the terms as you can't use it certain days and times. Also, I've seen the hotel on lastminutetravel, so keep checking your dates to see if they offer it.

royalcruz Posted October 12, 2011 #20 Share Posted October 12, 2011 Any tips on how to identify the Atlantic on lastminutetravel? The Atlantic will be at least 4 stars in the Fort Lauderdale beach area. You can do a fake booking and select a car and keep going until you see the name. Or you can print out pictures from the hotel lobby from the Atlantic website and keep it by your computer. http://www.atlantichotelfl.com/photo-gallery/ Look for the photo of the bar (blue lights/green wall) and the lobby lounge area (lavender wall with built-in shelves showing lit up glass vases). At least that's what I saw the last time I saw the hotel on lmt
lss111 Posted October 12, 2011 #21 Share Posted October 12, 2011 Its even easier, on the British LMT site, they don't hide the hotels, they are all revealed, same hotels as the US site. so go to the lastminutetravel.uk site and voila. All the same hotels, no guessing.... Someone from UK posted this on CC.com.UK and thats how I found it and it checks out. Laura
