Shore Excursion for the Quest...MOMBAI TO SUEZ, Apr 24/12

I know it's early but some of us cruisers like to get our ducks in a row and then relax until its time to cruise. Everyday I pull up the AZ website and find that the excursions are not available for this cruise and to check back closer to departure time. Strange, the prior 12 day cruise from Singapore to Mombai have had their excursions listed from when I booked in early Sept.

I guess I'd like to know if there is a problem and we should be looking at private tours now rather than scrambling around at the last moment. Also, with the 50% off shore excursions, I would think think that there will have to be a minimum of pax required for a tour to run.

Any info would be most appreciated. It would be nice to even know what (if any) will be offered and I can relax, at least til final payment date LOL.

Thanks

Marlene

Marlene, we are waiting for some information too. We will be checking this post daily for updates. We've never attempted private excursions thru viator or shoretrips.com. Do you feel comfortable with private companies?

Hi Marlene,

I will be happy to ask for you. If I'm unable to obtain an answer, perhaps Bill Leiber will respond. Stay Tuned !

Hi there Woodysalam.....Obviously I am still waiting for the excursions to be posted, the last time I spoke to a AZ rep I was told they would be up the last week of Jan. so we'll see. I usually don't have a problem using private tours but this is a first time for us (two unescorted women) to visit this part of the world my spider sense tells me to stick with the known. Hopefully the political climate in Egypt well calm down and we will have a wonderful cruise.

I am also looking at this cruise, but the lack of shore ex information makes me nervous. If the port calls in Egypt were cancelled, that would take away my reason for doing the cruise.

Hi Linda

I understand your apprehension. We are booked b2b with the cruise preceding this one and it would not be something we would have done knowing Egypt could be "iffy". I guess it's time to take a big breath and hope for the best!

We had Egypt canceled twice last year. After it was canceled on one cruise we switched to one later in the year and it was canceled again. We understand the reasoning (although HAL did not cancel its Egypt ports), and we still had a great time on Quest.

Personally, I would be expecting them to cancel Egypt at this point.

Based on the news reports that have been coming out regarding several different instances.

and after traveling there while onboard AZ in Nov 2010 and experiencing the everyday traffic there and how you are potential sitting ducks while trapped in that traffic.

I'm not sure I would get off the ship right now, even if it did port there, it's a country that is at such a level of unpredictability right now.

and I should note we make it habit when we travel by land to go where Rick Steves has never been. We don't need or want our hand held, so we're use to fending for ourselves and I would still have very serious reservations about getting off the ship if it ported there.
