luvteaching Posted December 4, 2011 #2 Share Posted December 4, 2011 For me - the bread pudding - just a small portion daily and then a good brisk walk on the promenade deck! For DH - any of the cold soups at dinner.

NelleS Posted December 4, 2011 #7 Share Posted December 4, 2011 On the Zuiderdam for Thanksgiving, I had which the pumpkin soup, which was very good. For my entree, I had pumpkin ravioli, which was OUTSTANDING!!!!
cruz chic Posted December 4, 2011 #8 Share Posted December 4, 2011 I find pretty much all the soup on HAL to be very good, however, I've never tried the cold soups. To me, that's like having dessert before the meal and more calories than I want to consume. I do ok in the dept. already:D.
JennyandJoeS Posted December 4, 2011 #9 Share Posted December 4, 2011 Definitely the cold soups.:)
Mary Ellen1 Posted December 4, 2011 #10 Share Posted December 4, 2011 I was going to post a question just like this, because I'm going on HAL (Zuiderdam) for the first time in 12 days. :D Keep it coming, please! What other don't-miss foods and HAL specialties do you recommend?

bet410 Posted December 4, 2011 #13 Share Posted December 4, 2011 Oh, my! Another food thread to whet my appetite for my upcoming cruise! I'm so looking forward to the waffles and chocolate croissants at breakfast, bread pudding at lunch, and cold soups at dinner. However, I don't try to do them all in one day!
Rare 1025cruise Posted December 4, 2011 #14 Share Posted December 4, 2011 One thing I liked that we got on the Veendam (after the first 48 hours) was the help yourself taco/nacho bar.
jaspersmycat Posted December 4, 2011 #15 Share Posted December 4, 2011 I am especially fond of the Dutch Breakfast in the MDR.
CowPrincess Posted December 4, 2011 #16 Share Posted December 4, 2011 Baked brie in the MDR Thai basil chicken in the Lido when it is offered The Eggs Benedict that is made with smoked salmon instead of back bacon. The flourless chocolate cake
shandryl Posted December 4, 2011 #17 Share Posted December 4, 2011 thinly slice smoked salmon with purple onions with capers on rye bread with cream cheese. :) Are one of many of my favorite foods on the ship.
Duck Duck Cruise Posted December 4, 2011 #18 Share Posted December 4, 2011 When we sailed on Ms.Z a couple years ago, I found the Cinnamon Ice Cream on my last day on board! I have been looking forward to see if the Ms.O has it when we go to Hawaii in Feb 2012.
innlady1 Posted December 4, 2011 #19 Share Posted December 4, 2011 Reading this thread has me thinking I should try to lose a few lbs. before our upcoming cruise! Let's see: If I had to name one favorite thing, something I look forward to each and every cruise, it is the escargot! YUMMY! Many other things are the croissants; bread pudding in the Lido; the baked brie, lamb chops, and creme brulee in the MDR, anything in the Pinnacle Grill, and, I, too, have had the cinnamon ice cream in the Lido...another favorite! The cold soups are good...but sort of remind me of melted ice cream. So I restrain, in favor of other things.
JR767 Posted December 4, 2011 #20 Share Posted December 4, 2011 Soups in the MDR are consistently excellent and sometimes amazing. If you like beef you should try the Pinnacle at least once - I've read mixed reviews but after eating there multiple times on multiple ships it's been consistently outstanding IMO. Tamarind is very good, and the dim sum lunch there is free.
2ptu/000 Posted December 4, 2011 #21 Share Posted December 4, 2011 I like the swiss musuli at breakfast.
jkrislc Posted December 4, 2011 #22 Share Posted December 4, 2011 The cold fruit soups are very good and I agree with others about them being somewhat dessert-like and likely calorie laden. I was also found of the escargot, which is the best I've had, as well as the bone-in rib eye in the Pinnacle Grill. My DS (4) was quite fond of the "watermelon pie" which was a type of ice cream/sorbet creation that looked like a slice of watermelon with chocolate seeds. That's the thing he is most looking forward to in the DR this month.
nana51 Posted December 4, 2011 #23 Share Posted December 4, 2011 I had gastric bypass surgery about 3 and a half months ago. I'm doing well, and have lost 40 pounds, 15 more to go (I lost 35 before the surgery). I can only eat small bits of food as my stomach is the size of an egg:eek: However I am so looking forward to my cruise at the end of January. I will be close to 6 months by then and will be able to try most foods. My husband is quite happy because he will be finishing all my meals.:) I don't plan to sabatoge myself by going crazy, but I don't make too many "real" meals anymore as it is mostly my husband who eats it. Making a roast for one person, even using the leftovers, isn't too practical. So this will be fun. He will follow behind me and finish up my food, kinda like a dog. Hope he doesn't read this. wldflr Posted December 4, 2011 #24 Share Posted December 4, 2011 DH would say bread pudding. I enjoyed our meal in the pinnacle grill. Loved it so much, we went back a second time and I did the same entire meal again.
