Coffee Makers in Balcony Silhouette Cabins?

I have a balcony cabin on my upcoming cruise on the Silhouette and would like to bring Starbucks coffee to make coffee in the cabin.

Do the balcony cabins have coffee makers? Most cruises do not have the same kind of coffee from Room Service that my wife and I enjoy.

We had a coffee maker in our cabin on our recent NCL Gem cruise and it was great. I hope I can enjoy the same on my upcoming cruise.

As others have said, no coffee makers. We used to bring our own coffee maker with us until Celebrity but them on the list of prohibited items along with weapons, explosives and illegal drugs.

Now we usually bring a coffee press which we fill with hot water from room service or from the buffet. These work great and Starbucks will happily grind your coffee coarse for use in a press. We bought a Bodnum press with a shatterproof body rather than a glass one. Only issue is that it is a hassle cleaning it out in your stateroom.

We might give the Via instant coffee another try on our next cruise, been meaning to check it out a few mornings at home to see if it passes our early morning taste and wake-up needs.

Other alternatives are to deal with the on-board coffee including the no-extra-charge coffee, which we've found tastes pretty bad, or pay for the excellent espresso based coffee sold at the ship's coffee bar and most of the dining venues around the ship.

We usually bring along a french press and our own coffee. DH had the coffee drink package so we left the press at home. We were very surprised to find the coffee actually pretty good on the Silhouette- everywhere we drank it!

We especially liked to get coffee in the hideaway on deck 7. This is the first time in many cruises that we both enjoyed the coffee. Hope this is a sign of good coffee for future cruises!

On our most recent cruise with RCCL we had both a coffeemaker and tea kettle in our suite but the coffeemaker didn't work. Luckily, we brought packets of Starbucks VIA which we made every morning... what a lifesaver that was for us since the coffee onboard was terrible. VIA is actually very good.

I would really like to put a coffee maker in my cabin. I know the suites have coffee makers in the cabins but I did not book a suite. Coffee is free on board. Its not like smuggling in booze which would cut into their profit. I feel that the suites have coffee makers that have been checked out and approved as safe.

May not be an allowed item, but we purchased one of those single cup coffee makers like many hotels have - not the fancy ones that need pods.

Anyways, we travel alot and often stay in casinos, many of which do not have coffee makers in the rooms. We love having our little coffemaker.

THere are no coffee makers on any Celebrity ships. When Celebrity sails from Southampton the ship's staterooms are equipped with teakettles but they are removed when the ship leaves its Southampton runs and moves to other locations.

Interesting point, since DW enjoys a morning cuppa and we are looking at the TA from Southampton to FLL in October 2012. Does anyone know if the tea kettles are left on for the TA, or pulled off to be used for future UK cruises?

Thanks in advance.

I NEVER drink hotel or cruise coffee. For nearly 20 years, we've taken our tea kettle with us on every single cruise we've been on. It has an automatic shutoff. Never once has anyone ever questioned it.

DH drinks tea. I bring a milita cone with a couple dozen cone filters. I drink my coffee black so it has to be good. If I had to drink instant or cruise coffee, I'd pass on both.

I travel for my job and I take my own coffee on the road as well.

I hope they don't take our tea kettle away from us. It's never been an issue yet.

Starbucks VIA went up against Starbucks brewed regular coffee and the Via won the blind taste test. It's not your mamma's instant coffee!!!

Even if I did decide to try instant (doubt it since I drink half flavor and half decaf), I still need (DH too) boiling water. I drink very, very hot coffee....when I order lattes, I order it at 190)....so a tea kettle is perfect for us.

Hi, if they have tea kettles on the ship for the Southampton trips, perhaps they would let you use one of those or at least tell you the exact type so you could bring your own. Since I do not drink coffee or tea, will an electric tea kettle get the water hot enough for coffee? Are you an Elite member? I read on another post that they have special coffee for their breakfast gatherings. Hope it works out for you.

I'm booked for 2014 Silhouette cruise and require a respectable cup a coffee before I emerge from the cabin. My assumption is that the room service coffee is not provided early enough or the cost is too high or the quality is substandard? Please clarify. I could certainly make do with a cup of Via if a tea kettle was allowed or hot water provided by room service.

In the past this has only applied to the Eclipse and they removed them on the Transatlantic, some have reported that they were able to ask their cabin attendant who did get the kettle, others have not.

Good news: Room service coffee is no extra charge and available anytime 24/7

Bad news: If you are picky about your coffee you'll probably fund the room service coffee, as well as all of the other no-extra charge coffee on board, is not up to your tastes.

This thread was started two years ago. Since it was written we've done two cruises where we used Starbucks VIA. VIA isn't my favorite coffee but is way better than the regular coffee on board. You can get a pot of hot water from room service for your VIA. However, sometimes it takes 5 minutes to get the hot water and sometimes 20 minutes or more depending on how busy the staff is and the location of your cabin. I usually just went up to the buffet and made my coffee there and brought it back in take-away cups (they have those in the AM).

But on our last cruise, and half the cruise before that, we bought a beverage package and now just get the espresso based coffees from Cafe al Bacio as part of the packages. They are very good but not available from room service so you'll have to go to the cafe and either enjoy your coffee there or bring them back in take-away cups.

Thank you all for your replies. I will leave my kitchen appliances at home, where they belong. We do have a beverage package, and we will likely hit the Cafe al Bacio when they open in the morning, but I will pack some Via for that first morning cup.

I've had good luck with coffee bags. Like tea bags, and sold in most groceries by Folger's and Maxwell House. A quick Google search will show you how to make your own with a coffee filter, which means you can use your preferred bean or blend. Easy, no mess to clean up, and so much better than coffee served on board!
