Newbcruiser1 Posted December 24, 2011 #1 Share Posted December 24, 2011 This is the second week in a row that the Navigator seems to be pretty late heading out. Any idea as to what's going on this week?
megr1125 Posted December 24, 2011 #2 Share Posted December 24, 2011 from what i heard on the Port everglades webcam a couple hours ago there were divers in the water again, fiddling with the stabilizer.... looks like she's on the way...
uksimonusa Posted December 24, 2011 #3 Share Posted December 24, 2011 She's coming out now, last week she was docked facing the other way and came out backwards, I would imagine the were looking at one set of stableizers last week and the others today
Pumbaamd Posted December 25, 2011 #4 Share Posted December 25, 2011 Friends on board confirmed to us that delay was due to divers in the water working on stableizers. R&D

Ocean Boy Posted December 31, 2011 #12 Share Posted December 31, 2011 There seems to be a relationship between leaving late and blowing the horn.
Pumbaamd Posted December 31, 2011 #13 Share Posted December 31, 2011 There seems to be a relationship between leaving late and blowing the horn. You are correct. The fact that NV had stabilizer problems, and they were still able to leave, it was a grand success . . . so blow those horns!!! R&D
phoenix1181 Posted December 31, 2011 #14 Share Posted December 31, 2011 They had problems with the stabilizers in 2008 & had to cut two of them off. What's wrong with them now?

FLHugh Posted December 31, 2011 #16 Share Posted December 31, 2011 That's two weeks in a row. The captain must have gotten the message!:):):) I wonder who makes the decision to blow the horn, the Captain or the Pilot. My guess would be the Pilot as he is in command of navigation and the horn blowing is "supposed" to be to warn other traffic that the ship is exiting the channel. Anyone know for sure?? Ocean Boy Posted December 31, 2011 #17 Share Posted December 31, 2011 My understanding is that the captain of a ship is always in command.
Clarea Posted December 31, 2011 #18 Share Posted December 31, 2011 My understanding is that the captain of a ship is always in command. From what I've heard Captains say, you are correct. The pilot advises, and the Captain decides. I think they said there were only a couple of places where the Captain actually gives up control of the ship. One is the Panama Canal, and I forget the other.
