TinaPT22 Posted April 12, 2005 #1 Share Posted April 12, 2005 Hi - we are considering booking a Mediterranean cruise on the Insignia Venice to Barcelona in September 2005. This would be our first cruise on Oceania. We have previously been on Seabourn and Crystal. The itinerary for the Oceania cruise is exactly what we are looking for. Can anyone tell me if you have to wait in line before being seated for dinner in the main dining room. We like to have dinner after 7:30 p.m. Thanks for your help. Andee Posted April 12, 2005 #2 Share Posted April 12, 2005 Sometimes there was no line, and sometimes we waited up to five minutes.
drwong Posted April 12, 2005 #3 Share Posted April 12, 2005 As with anything, the answer is, "It depends." If the evening entertainment is something worthwhile, you may have a lot of people rushing the dining room at 7:00 in hopes they'll finish their meal in time for the show. If it's an at sea day, a surge of people will predictably hit the dining room between 6 and 7 pm, so those arriving later may have to wait for a table to clear (when that happened, we went upstairs to the buffet and found the same entrees in the steam trays!). On shore excursion days, by the time people arrived back at the ship after an afternoon or all-day tour, freshened up, and changed for dinner, they straggled in between 7 and 9 pm. Have fun, and be flexible!
jcocchiarella Posted April 18, 2005 #4 Share Posted April 18, 2005 Outside the main dining room there is avery nice lounge with bar where one can sit to wait to be seated. You really don't need to wait "in line".

To add to that... if there is a "back up" at the main dining room..they take your cabin number and you can just hang around that bar area until they call you.. Sometimes you only need to wait if you are wanting a table for 2 or a table for more 4 to 6 .. if you join others then there usually isn't a wait. Seabee Posted April 28, 2005 #6 Share Posted April 28, 2005 Hi...we are considering our first cruise on Oceania after several on Celebrity and Princess. a few basic questions please. I notice that there are several dining rooms on the ships. Do any of them charge extra? I assume the main dining room is no charge. How about the availablity of Ballroom Dancing? Thanks
Andee Posted April 28, 2005 #7 Share Posted April 28, 2005 There is no additional charge for any of the specialty restaurants. Often, there was ballroom dancing in the theater before the evening's entertainment.
